High-voltage connector interfaces
DC converters
ABB (Atlanta, Georgia) developed hinged high-voltage connector
backshells for heavy-duty EVs with its Harnessflex EVO
Connector Interfaces, which are part of a complete cable protection
system that offsets the need for expensive, bulky cable
clamps, ABB claims. The connector interfaces deliver cable-toconnector
strain relief with high mechanical performance, as
well as prevent debris intrusion. Designed with a tamperproof,
integrated clip system, Harnessflex EVO Connector Interfaces
add an extra layer of security and strengthen resistance to
abrasion and vibration. They reportedly reduce cable movement
and form tighter junction joints for secure connections in
electric ancillaries, DC/DC converters, onboard chargers, highvoltage
battery packs, hybrid systems, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles,
and dynamic and static power systems.

Mining tires
Nokian Tyres
(Nokia, Finland)
announced its
Armor Gard 2
Mine tires for drill
rigs in harsh mining
conditions. Nokian states that the
Armor Gard 2 offers excellent cut resistance,
good handling dynamics and
long service life. Nokian also announced
a new size, 9.00-20, in addition to the
existing 10.00-20 size. Compared to the
previous generation of Armor Gard
tires, the Armor Gard 2 Mine is 25%
stiffer vertically and has 12% more tread
rubber. The tread also is wider than before,
lowering the contact pressure and
making the tire more hard-wearing. The
tire has been reshaped to be more rectangular,
which reportedly increases its
stability by up to 25%.

Deutronic (Spartanburg, South Carolina) introduced a new
line of DC/DC converters for use in electrified off-highway
vehicle applications. The DVCHx3 converter is part of a series
designed for hybrid and electric vehicles. With an interlock
function, it offers short-circuit, overtemperature,
load protection and self-protection features. The converters
are rated IP65, IP67 and IP6K9K for dust and waterproof
protection in adverse conditions. Additionally, the
DVCHx3 is cooled via the contact surface. Unlike purely
liquid-cooled systems, its cooling system can be flexibly
adapted to the application. Deutronic also offers solutions
with heat sinks or cold plates.

Polycarbonate screens
SABIC
(Riyadh, Saudi
Arabia) offers
Lexan polycarbonate
for
heavy-equipment
windshields,
door
glazing, visors
and skylights.
SABIC states that its solution is 250
times more impact resistant than glass
and significantly lighter than the equivalent
glass piece, which makes the
screen easier to transport, handle and
install. Additionally, the company
claims that a curved polycarbonate
screen is simpler and less expensive to
manufacture and that unlike untreated
glass, the solution offers protection for
ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

Rheostat switch
Carling
Technologies
(Plainville,
Connecticut)
introduced a
new configurable
rheostat
switch designed for vehicle lighting control.
Available for 12 VDC and 24 VDC
systems, the CVR-Series rheostat switch
is made with thermoplastic and silverplated
brass terminals for reliable operation
in commercial vehicles, such as work
trucks, agricultural equipment and construction
equipment. Carling states that
the CVR-Series rheostat switch is available
with either three or four detent positions
to gradually increase or decrease
the intensity of vehicle lighting. In addition,
the above-panel components are
sealed to an IP53 rating.
