the nuance of the problem at
hand: " Given different
applications and requirements,
decarbonizing the entire
transportation sector will require
a diverse portfolio of solutions
and technologies. ... [A]
successful transition will require
various vehicle and fuel solutions
and must consider full life-cycle
emissions. " At this point in the
blueprint, I'm in complete
agreement with the authors.
Where that starts to break down

is in the summary table, which presents battery
electric vehicles, hydrogen, and sustainable liquid
fuels as the technology solutions to address the
various modes of transportation. On the surface, this
is great - it acknowledges that there is no one-sizefits-all
solution for the entire transportation system.
But taking a closer look at the document's table
reveals that there iS a one-size-fits-all solution
proposed for light-duty transportation (i.e., the cars
and trucks that you and I drive every day): battery
electric vehicles. The long-term potential of hydrogen
and sustainable liquid fuels is included for long-haul
trucking, maritime, aviation, and possibly rail. To be
fair, there is a " TBD " for sustainable fuels in the lightUPDATE
