earned first place overall for the Aero Design
East regular class competition. At Aero Design
West, Texas A&M University took the gold for
micro and regular class, while Poland's Wrocław
University of Technology earned first place
overall in the advanced class competition.
BAJA BLAST
On the Baja SAE side of things, where vehicles
often end up as airborne as Aero Design
bouncing over the rugged dirt tracks, teamwork
and collaboration are touted as core
competencies for success.
" Winning the 2024 Baja SAE season felt
immensely rewarding. It was the culmination of
countless hours of hard work, dedication, and
collaboration from everyone on the team, " said
Olivier Boisvert, technical director of Canada's
École de Technologie Supérieure's Baja ÉTS
team, which brought home first place overall in
this year's Pennsylvania and Michigan
competitions, as well as second place overall in
California.
" Participating in Baja SAE offers an
unparalleled hands-on experience, " Boisvert
said. " It allows students to take the theoretical
knowledge from the classroom and apply it to
real-world engineering challenges. You gain
critical skills in design, problem-solving, and
project management, all while working under
tight deadlines and constraints. Plus, it's a
fantastic opportunity to collaborate with peers,
industry professionals, and sponsors, helping
you develop both your technical expertise
and professional network. "
Cornell University kept Baja ÉTS from
earning a hat trick this season, bringing
home first place overall at the California
competition in April.


SNOW, HEY-OH
There was a period when it looked like the SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge
(CSC) would have to be canceled this year. Normally, snow is a sure-thing for
Michigan winters. But no weather is certain in today's ever-changing climate;
the irony of almost not having enough snow to host a competition focused on
environmentally friendly snowmobile engineering was not lost.
Luckily, the historic lack of snow resolved itself just in time for Rochester
Institute of Technology to come through and sweep the CSC's spark ignition
class early this year. The team earned first place overall, with several additional
high ranks for individual events.
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville
continued their winning streak and brought
home first place for the CSC's
compression ignition class.
