PRODUCT BRIEFS
H2 direct injection
Marelli announced its hydrogen
ICE direct-injection fuel
system. Marelli states that
the system's injectors offer
reliable performance and
low-noise operation with the
same packaging dimensions
as those used for traditional fuels. The injectors feature double
actuation, a magnetic circuit to control the speed of the
needle and a high static flow that can meet the requirements
of a variety of different vehicles. The design also mitigates
uncontrolled hits between the injector's dynamic components
to reduce performance drifts. The fuel system also includes a
pressure reducer with an integrated regulator to reduce hydrogen
pressure to the injection's working pressure and an
H2
-specific manifold tested for severe-duty applications.

Winter drive tires
Yokohama Tire (Santa Ana, California)
launched the 907W drive tire designed for
snowy and icy conditions. The 907W replaces
the SY767 and carries the threepeak
mountain snowflake symbol. It is
available in three sizes: 295/75R22.5,
11R22.5 and 11R24.5. Yokohama states that
the 907W offers long tread life thanks to
the tire's 27/32-inch (21.43-mm) tread
depth. The company also states that the 907W's new compound
resists scrubbing, cutting and chipping and that the
combination blocks combat heel/toe wear to enhance traction.
The four zig-zag grooves also reportedly allow for efficient
water evacuation while providing enhanced radial and
lateral traction in extreme winter conditions.

Charging computers
Deutronic (Spartanburg,
South Carolina) developed a
new line of charging computers
to supply reliable power to
the 12V board net for EV or
ICE vehicles. Deutronic states
that the DBL 1903-14 has a
120-amp power supply and is a single-phase device with
touchscreen controls. The unit is intended for original-equipment
production line charging applications, assembly rework
areas and aftermarket dealer environments. An automatic
detection feature for OEM customers determines the connection
to both lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries to deliver
smart and safe charging to all vehicles.

Battery packs
Freudenberg e-Power Systems
(Munich, Germany) introduced its
new XRANGE battery pack for
electrification of a variety of medium-
to heavy-duty vehicles,
ranging from school and long-haul
transit buses, medium-duty trucks,
mining and construction applications.
Long-term performance and robustness are reportedly
key characteristics of the XRANGE packs to ensure that they
can withstand the rough conditions of the intended use cases.
The company offers fully engineered energy storage solutions
including intelligent battery management systems, cooling,
telematics and other relevant elements. LG Energy Systems
supplies the Li-ion battery cells. Freudenberg will produce the
packs with a scalable capacity up to 6 GWh.

Hydrogen fuel tanks
Voith Composites (Garching,
Germany) announced that its
Carbon4Tank for hydrogen
fuel-cell commercial vehicles
has been approved for road
use in Europe. Voith's tank is
reportedly the first H2
tank of its class to receive type approval
under the UN/ECE guidelines. Voith's Carbon4Tank is rated 700
bar (10,150 psi) and 350 liters of hydrogen capacity. The tank
was designed to enable long-haul trucks to travel up to 1,000
kilometers (620 miles) between fill-ups. Voith states that the
tank features a robust and flexible sealing solution for temperatures
as cold as -60 deg C (-76 deg F). Voith also claims that its
tanks are lighter than comparable models that are constructed
with wet filament winding.

Inspection system
Rad Source NDT (Buford, Georgia)
has announced the NDT 1000 X-ray
inspection system. The company
states that the NDT 1000 can inspect
materials with thicknesses of up to
0.5 inches (1.27 cm) including robust
materials like steel. Rad Source also
states that the NDT 1000 can inspect
piping and welds quickly thanks to
an imaging speed of 24 frames per second. The NDT 1000 is
reportedly suited for aerospace, defense, automotive and
testing applications and comes equipped with a high-resolution
digitizing panel and monitor, ensuring clear imaging for
accurate assessments.
