Connector coatings

GENERATION
Hydrogen fuel-cell generator
ITT Cannon (Irvine, California) touts that its connectors,
distributed by PEI-Genesis, feature Tin Zinc J plating and
withstand harsh environmental conditions. The coating is
rated to resist corrosion for over 500 hours of static cyclic
salt spray. This capability extends the lifespan of equipment
and heavy machinery while reducing maintenance needs.
PEI states that the plating offers high conductivity with a
resistance of <5m ohm. This low resistance ensures a reliable
flow of electric current, an essential attribute for maintaining
operational integrity. The coating exceeds VG
(German Military) performance requirements and is approved
as a direct replacement for cadmium. Tin Zinc J plating
also complies with Restriction of Hazardous Substances
(RoHS) and Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and
Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulations.

Traction batteries
Webasto (Gilching,
Germany) has increased
the energy
content of its traction
batteries from
35 to 40 kWh.
Webasto states
this is the standardized
product
design of the new Standard Battery Pro 40, giving existing
and new customers planning security for the coming years
and facilitates multi-year electrification projects. Up to 18 Pro
40 batteries with a total energy content of up to 720 kWh
provide sufficient power to drive electric commercial vehicles
in the voltage range of 400 or 800 volts. Like its predecessor,
the Standard Battery Pro 40 is protected by a robust aluminum
housing. The system weighs 297 kg (655 lb), can be integrated
vertically or horizontally into vehicles, and offers system
integrators and vehicle manufacturers maximum freedom
during installation.

Yanmar (Osaka,
Japan) has announced
the
HP35FA1Z, a compact
and multi-unit
controllable hydrogen
fuel-cell power
generation system.
The HP35FA1Z has a
peak power output
of 35 kW and does
not emit greenhouse
gases such as carbon
dioxide (CO2
) or
air pollutants like nitrogen oxides (NOx) during operation.
The system's compact design includes all necessary operating
equipment, simplifying installation and, according to
Yanmar, achieves one of the smallest footprints in its power
output class. The HP35FA1Z supports the integrated
control of up to 16 units, allowing for easy adjustment of
operating units and output control based on power demand
and available hydrogen supply, as well as straightforward
expansion to meet decarbonization goals.

Tire compounds
Toyo Tires (Costa Mesa, California)
announced a compound upgrade
for increased mileage for three
existing long haul and regional
truck tires. The Toyo M171+,
M671A+ and M677+ have received
improved compounds to maximize
removal miles while maintaining
low rolling resistance and
traction. Toyo states the new compound
can result in improved
mileage based on application. The
compound improvements will be
applied to 14 total sizes, including
the 22.5-inch sizes for M171+ and M671A+ and the 22.5-inch
and 24.5-inch sizes for M677+. The Toyo M171+ super regional
steer tires and M671A+ regional drive tires feature Toyo's
Nano Balance technology that contributes to the tire's performance
and efficiency, while also reducing strain at the bead
area and belt edge.
