Tire inflation systems
Freudenberg (Weinheim,
Germany) has made improvements
to its seals for central
tire inflation systems used by
construction and agricultural
machinery. These seals automatically
adjust the tire pressure
of off-highway vehicles to
varying ground conditions and vehicle loads. Freudenberg's
seals feature a double-lipped sealing component mounted
inside the wheel hub. This design separates the oil in the
wheel hub from the compressed air entering the tire, absorbing
the compressed air flowing to and from the tire. This eliminates
the need for a hose mounted on the outside of the tire.
An air lip ensures stable CTIS operation at pressures up to 8
bar (116 psi) and circumferential speeds up to 4.5 m/s.

DC/DC converters
Deutronic's (Spartanburg, South
Carolina) line of DC/DC converters
intended for the electrification of
off-highway commercial vehicles
features a durable, compact design
and high power density that offers protection from rough
environmental factors, including vibration, shock and high
temperature and humidity variations. The units are rated IP65,
IP67 and IP6K9K for dust and waterproof protection in adverse
conditions usually found in construction and mining
applications. The converters also feature cooling via the contact
surface. Unlike purely liquid-cooled systems, the cooling
system is flexible and can be adapted to the application. In
addition to the cost-effective contact cooling variant,
Deutronic also offers solutions with heat sinks or cold plates.

Touchscreen displays
Curtis Instruments (Mount Kisco, New
York) introduced the Curtis enGage NX
VII (NX7) display. Curtis states that the
NX7 is a 7-inch (177-mm) touchscreen
display powered by an i.MX 8M+ processor
with wireless integration, video support/processing, machine
learning, and advanced graphical animations. The NX7
is also Bluetooth capable with RFID and WiFi connectivity.
The unit is equipped with CAN-FD and Ethernet for fast data
rates and reliability. The NX7 is designed for operational temperatures
ranging from -40 to +70°C (-40 to +158°F) and is
powered by Linux and Qt. Curtis claims that Qt empowers
rapid development of modern, high-quality graphical user
interfaces (GUIs) and responsive animations.

Air springs
Continental (Hanover, Germany) has released
an upgraded material compound
for commercial-vehicle air springs. The
company states that its ContiTech group
sector has substituted synthetic rubber
with natural rubber that has been improved
thanks to the addition of ethylene-propylene-diene
rubber (EPDM). The
rubber compound's carbon footprint has reportedly been reduced
by more than 50% compared with conventional air
springs. Continental states that the Tough RuNR is able to
cover a wider range of climate conditions and is resistant to
both extreme heat and extreme cold. These characteristics
slow material aging and reduce other harmful influences from
tough environments and therefore can be used for broader,
more dynamic performance applications.

Isolation valves
Eberspaecher (Esslingen, Germany)
announced a new cathode isolation
valve that meets requirements for sealtightness
in fuel cell systems and prevents
premature aging. The valve is
used in the cathode air path of the fuel
cell system. The sealing concept hermetically
isolates the stack when the
entire system is shut down, preventing premature stack wear
and extending operating life. At the same time, the conditions
inside the fuel cell remain constant, enabling faster restarts. A
fail-safe function of the cathode isolation valve guarantees
that the fuel cell stack is closed quickly and reliably in the
event of a fault within the system. The component is also
adapted to the specific installation spaces of fuel cell systems.

Universal joints
CCTY (Lake Zurich, Illinois) announced
its square ball universal
joint for heavy trucks. CCTY states
that the patented design enables
smoother rotation and maintenance-free
operation. The square
ball universal joint consists of just eight components with
only three components needed for torque transmission. The
joint is comprised of two yokes and a square ball, which do
not require preloading in the assembly process. CCTY claims
this design results in consistent, smooth-moving joints in the
customer's production process. The joint also incorporates a
boot seal design that holds grease near the bearing's surfaces
and protects moving components against contaminants.
