aerospace engineering: SAE Aero Design and the SAE
AeroConnect™ Challenge. In the former, students
invent, design, fabricate, and test a radio-controlled
aircraft that can take off, land, and meet mission
requirements. In the latter, student teams think
critically about current and future emerging
technologies in the connected aircraft industry,
ultimately designing and developing an Urban Air
Mobility concept system.
SAE also supports the education of pre-K-12
students through A World In Motion® (AWIM). From
pre-school explorations on weather to middle-school
glider challenges, AWIM aims to foster a lifelong
appreciation of STEM in young students. The future of
aerospace engineering hinges on an engaged, curious,
and educated generation, and SAE will always
encourage activities that inspire the brilliant minds of
tomorrow.
Latest developments and looking forward
Much of SAE's success can be attributed to the
organization's ability to adapt: from developing
UPDATE
standards on new technologies
to supporting international
initiatives for the greater good,
SAE is dedicated to improving
the world through engineering.
Take the COVID-19 pandemic,
for example. In April 2020,
during the height of global
lockdowns, SAE offered a free
set of cargo transport standards
to airlines offering medical aid;
these standards helped
operators of medical flights and
medical supply transport adhere
to safety regulations.
SAE's commitment to safety
goes far beyond medical aid: as
just one example, the recent
revisions of ARP4754 and
ARP4761, widely considered the
twin pillars of aircraft safety,
ensure safer skies across the
