TECH FOCUS:
AErOSPACE
versus the demonstration of
conformity of AI-based products
to the regulation requirements
and clarify the future scope of
the standard applicability. This
was accomplished with the
publication of AIR6988/ER-022,
Artificial Intelligence in
Aeronautical Systems: Statement
of Concerns.
From December 5-8, 2023, the
committee had its 24th official
plenary meeting in São José dos
Campos, Brazil, which was
hosted by Embraer. It was a
hybrid event, but on average 40
members convened in person
and more than 100 participated
online to review, discuss, and
align about the consolidation of
the ARP6983/ED-324 standard,
which is currently in progress
under draft 5B. For the last few
years, excellent progress was
achieved to resolve conflicting
views and define of a set of
consistent objectives,
guaranteeing a successful
consolidation for minimum
viable product (MVP) standard
issue 1.
The committee has constant
support from authority liaisons-
including the European Union
Aviation Safety Agency (EASA),
Brazilian National Civil Aviation

Agency (ANAC), and U.S. Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA)-and the current results
received robust backing from these regulators.
Activities mapping the objectives of EASA AI
concept paper (proposed Issue 2), First Usable
Guidance For Level 1&2 Machine Learning Applications,
to the ARP6983/ED-324 objectives were presented,
as well as the harmonization initiatives between EASA
and FAA. This paves the way for a promising, highquality
AI standard in the aviation sector, which is
being key reviewed and fine-tuned for the balloting
