International Journal of Materials and
Manufacturing achieved an ISI Journal
Impact Factor™ (JIF) of 0.8 under his care.
The ISI JIF provides a quantitative and
qualitative tool for ranking, evaluating, and
categorizing scientific journals. Although
an ISI JIF score of 0.8 is a significant
achievement, Barkey's idea of success
extends beyond numerical metrics. His
vision for the journal encompasses a
broader ambition-to make a practical
impact on the mobility industry as a
whole.
Barkey's areas of expertise include
material characterization, fatigue analysis,
and structural durability and reliability.
Currently, he's involved with research
projects focused on the elevated
temperature fatigue testing of additively
manufactured test specimens. He's also
engaged with a project aimed to redesign
rollers in a mill to increase the yield of biofuel
production.
" Additive manufacturing-i.e., 3D printed
metal components-will have an impact on
many industries and manufacturing
processes when knowledge and
confidence is gained on the material
properties of these types of components, "
he said.
But in world of ever-evolving
composites and materials, Barkey always
returns to an oldie but a goodie: steel.
" Steel and iron have been produced for
a few thousand years, but there's still
ongoing development of steels with new
