ENGINEERING EVENTS
JetToy Competition sparks joy,
lifelong interest in STEM
The 11th annual competition marks Kia's impact on over 100,000 students with SAE.
As the morning sun lit up the
Columbus Convention and Trade
Center, 37 volunteers stood within,
eager to open the doors. Meanwhile,
outside, 250 children giddily awaited
the day ahead. For these Georgia 5th
graders, the 11th annual SAE A World
in Motion® (AWIM) JetToy
Competition felt like making it to the
NCAA Division I basketball Final Four.

During the JetToy Competition, 5th grade students design, build, and
race balloon-powered cars.
The joy and excitement surrounding the JetToy Competition is
nothing short of contagious.

Competition, supported by Kia
Georgia, is something participants
look forward to each year. During the
competition, 5th grade students
spend the day in groups, challenging
each other and themselves to push
the limits of their STEM skills as they
work in teams to design, build, and
race balloon-powered cars. The
competition is a mirror of SAE's
AWIM JetToy classroom challenge,
but with a tenfold increase in student
participation-and smiles.
Each year, Kia Georgia employees
happily volunteer in the event, either
to help with setting up or to
participate as a track judge on
