SAE Foundation's annual celebration
raises $340k to support STEM education
The SAE Foundation is proud to
announce that more than
$340,000 was raised to support
science, technology, engineering,
and mathematics (STEM)
education through SAE's A World
In Motion® (AWIM) program. Now
in its 26th year, the SAE 2024 SAE
Foundation annual celebration
recognized Toshihiro Mibe,
director, president, and
representative executive officer
(global CEO) of Honda Motor Co.,
Ltd., as the recipient of the 2024
SAE Foundation Industry
Leadership Award, which
recognizes individuals who have
made substantial contributions to
the mobility industry.
" This Industry Leadership
Award is a testament to Mr. Mibe's
prestigious career, his leadership
in the mobility industry and in
recognition of Honda's support of
STEM education and their
contributions to the mission of
the SAE Foundation, " said Jamie
Ferguson, executive director of
SAE Foundation and STEM
Learning.
In addition to the prestigious
Industry Leadership Award, Mary
Barra, CEO of General Motors,

Annual celebration student attendees had the rare opportunity to show off
their devices to Honda Motor Company's global CEO, Toshihiro Mibe.
presented a $100,000 donation in Mibe's honor to
support SAE's new AWIM high school electric vehicle
curriculum launching in early 2025. This includes a
booklet that highlights Mibe's leadership in Honda's
electric vehicle journey, meant to inspire students to
pursue careers in engineering.
Other awards included the Donald Ableson Award
for Visionary Leadership, presented to Dan Nicholson,
vice president of strategic technology initiatives,
General Motors. This award is the highest recognition
that the SAE Foundation trustees bestow upon an
individual who has exhibited exemplary leadership that
benefited SAE International or the SAE Foundation.
Liz Mathew, of Caterpillar, Inc., and Dr. Mike Bunce,
of MAHLE Powertrain, LLC, received the SAE
Foundation Young Industry Leader Awards and Nissan
North America received the Gordon Millar Award. n
