" You design a container or a
module that will not only handle
a thermal runaway event, but will
allow the cells to continue to
operate even after thermal
runaway has occurred. If it fails,
then you go back, iterate as
necessary, then redo testing. If it
contains, then you can evaluate
the module to module
propagation, " Belt said.
Belt explained the other types
of tests mentioned in ARP7131
for the system level-including
crash and drop tests, high
voltage stress, and underwater
immersion testing. He
emphasized the applicability of
this process, and that ARP7131's
testing methods are not limited
to any one model of aerospace
cell, module, and system.
" Not all batteries have to look
this way. We just wanted to show
the things that we thought about
when we were building this one in
particular, " Belt said. In addition to
testing procedures, ARP7131
provides a detailed table depicting
other standards found within
similar fields and compares and
contrasts the information within
these documents to ARP7131.
" It's kind of a snapshot into the
standards within today's market.

standard, there's others out there that that can help in
that area. For example, RTCA-DO311A doesn't cover
certain mechanical topics, but you can use this
reference to see which standards do, " Belt said.
Belt explained how this type of informational
inclusion can promote a more collaborative mobility
ecosystem by providing professionals with leads to
essential information.
" Some standards say, 'Just read me. Don't look at the
others.' I think that's counter-productive, so we
included ones that we thought people would find
useful, " Belt said.
Belt and his team are proud to present a standard

readers to other sources of valuable industry
knowledge. By linking documents in this way, they help
to create a more interconnected-and abundant-
mobility ecosystem for aerospace battery systems.
