to global decarbonization
Every region has its own set of needs.
The importance of decarbonizing mobility to slow
climate change is one of the most talked-about
topics today.
Although the consensus is that all sectors of
transportation need to emit less CO2
, there is little
agreement on which technological routes to take. In
this context, the electrification of mobility assumes
dominance, but the diverse energy matrices of
different regions will not allow for a one-size-fits-all
solution.
The transition to cleaner energy and the rapid
introduction of emission-reducing technologies
necessitate a multifaceted approach. Countries like
Brazil and India can offer more representative
participation in the decarbonization processes by
leveraging their domestic talent and regional
potential instead of simply copying the solutions
coming from other, more-developed countries. Their
energy inputs can be used in areas with similar
economic characteristics, bringing more
opportunities for market development and
competitive advantages for various economic
sectors.
For instance, 22% of Brazil's transport energy was
supplied by biofuels in 2022-making it the second
largest biofuel producer in the world. India, which
shares many similarities to Brazil, is set to achieve
20% ethanol blending in gasoline and 5% biodiesel
blending in diesel by 2030. (Currently, India's

blending percentage of ethanol
is around 2% and biodiesel is
less than 0.1%.) SAE
International has a wellestablished
presence in both
countries, serving as an
important link to support their
strategic initiatives.
While mobility is essential for
human well-being, it is vital to
acknowledge other pressing
needs, such as health,
education, and basic sanitation,
particularly in developing
regions. As SAE Edge™ Research

population cannot worry about
global warming. "
Without a doubt, change is
necessary. It is also costly. It is
not enough to change-we must
make the change economically
viable.

of a country or region depends
on the size of the fleet in
circulation, the average age of
the vehicles in use in this fleet,
