A Q&A with SAE Aero
Design organizers
TECH FOCUS:
AEROSPACE
and hear how their theoretical solution is working in
real-world competition. There are always some great
lessons learned that I know will stick with them
through their future careers.
What's your proudest moment as an Aero Design
organizer? (Or best/most fun memory?)
MB: I have a ton of fun memories from competitions
over the past 20 years. Among my favorite memories
are enjoying time with my friends on the committee
our traditions include a post-competition run to the
local farm-stand for strawberry milkshakes, evening
campfires, and Saturday night pizzas at the hotel. In
addition, I've had several proud moments from my
interactions with students of 20 years of volunteering.
One of my favorite experiences is an encounter with a
former competitor, who was in their mid-career at the
time-they commented to me that advice I had given
them during competition had positively affected the
course of their career.

UPDATE
A favorite competition
moment happened with a team
that had been down on their
luck during competition. I had
spent a few minutes with the
team talking about how to
approach things a little
differently for next year as many
of them would be returning
competitors. I encouraged them
that their team had
demonstrated a passionate
commitment and an excellent
sportsmanship in supporting
their peers from other
universities. I specifically ended
