Jump Head Why Artificial Intelligence is Reshaping Space Applications A lthough artificial intelligence (AI) may have its roots in video and image-based recognition patterns, this trailblazing technology has evolved far beyond mere image classification, as a number of industries have harnessed its power of intelligent and actionable data. More specifically, the integration of AI into the space industry has ushered in a transformative era, reshaping space technology capabilities to achieve mission objectives and further space exploration. The unpredictable nature of space exploration and this progressive approach of employing data into actionable intelligence presents a unique opportunity to enhance autonomous decision-making in space vehicles as well as engage ground stations. Not only can AI-driven decision-making processes facilitate operations on-board the vehicle and among networked, in-orbit systems through quick autonomous decisions, it can enable shifts in operations to Figure 1.
