Laser Surface Structuring
(FLSS) uses ultrashort pulses of laser light
to introduce micropores into the active
layer of the battery electrodes. FLSS is a
precise process that produces patterns
with sub-micron resolution. This creates
very high surface area electrodes, leading
to significant improvements in battery
performance. It is a fast process that can
manufacture batteries on a large scale.
Nonwoven Battery Cell Envelopes
Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has
launched new cell caps and the nonwoven
cell stack providing manufacturers with
significant technical advantages. Battery
cell envelopes consist of innovative nonwoven
materials that wrap the cell stack and
protect it during the assembly and provide
the necessary electrical insulation. Nonwoven
envelopes consist of fiber network
forming an ultra-homogeneous pore structure.
The fibers are surface treated for permanent
electrolyte wettability. This results
in a lower risk of entrapping gas compared
to conventional foils, nonwoven materials
filled with electrolyte also lead to improved
heat management within the cell.
