PRODUCT OF THE MONTH
n Surface-Active Therapeutic Coating
Biointeractions, Shinfield, UK, has launched a surface-active therapeutic coating for medical devices.
AstutePlus®
is an advanced antithrombogenic designed specifically to stop fibrin sheath formation
as well as thrombus formation in blood-contacting devices. The coating combines both active and
passive components. The active agents block the blood cascade mechanism, thereby deactivating platelets,
which reduces thrombus formation and prevents fibrin sheath formation. The passive elements
hinder deposition and adhesion of blood components and proteins on the device surface. This combination
results in an implant that is actively shielded and protected for the lifetime of the patient,
therefore providing clinicians more time to focus on caring for their patients.

Product Focus: Motors and Motion Control
n Linear Voice Coil Stage
A high- performance linear DC motordriven
stage has been released by Moticont,
Van Nuys, CA. The 1-µm resolution
VCDS-025-038-02-B1-01 linear voice coil
stage features high speed, high acceleration/deceleration,
zero backlash, smooth
motion, precise positioning, high reliability, and low cost. The
non-commutated stage is cleanroom friendly. The compact linear
voice coil stage is 127.0 mm (5.000 in.) long × 50.8 mm (2.000 in.)
wide × 54.0 mm (2.125 in) high. The travel length is 24.6 mm (0.97
in.) with a continuous force rating of 4.6 N (1.0 lbs.) and a peak force
of 14.4 N (3.2 lbs.) at a 10 percent duty cycle.

n Magnetic Encoder
Novotechnik, U.S., Southborough,
MA, has introduced a 44-turn magnetic
encoder with IO-Link output interface.
The MC-1 2800 uses patented
nonvolatile technology that retains
turn count even when power is lost,
and it reports correct count when power is restored. Key specifications
include measuring range of 15,840° (44 turns), measured
variable information of angle, turns, speed, and limit switch points.
Measurement rotational speed is from 0 to 546 rpm, resolution is
16-bits, absolute linearity is ≤ ±1°, and repeatability is ≤ ±0.1°. The
series is available with push-on coupling or marked shaft.

n Rewireable Connector
An IEC connector from Schurter,
Santa Rosa, CA, combines a rewireable
C19 connector with the proven
V-Lock cord retention system. The
4799 rewireable connectors are particularly
flexible and especially suitable
for small series of mains cables
to enable exactly this. The connectors enable designers to choose
the right cable with a country-specific plug. This connector does not
use halogens for the bushing or any other plastic components. It has
all approvals for the European, Chinese, and North American markets,
and it is certified in accordance with the IEC/UL/CCC 60320
standard.

n Vertical Elevator Stages
A series of motorized elevator stages has
been released by Optimal Engineering Systems,
Inc. (OES), Van Nuys, CA. The DAG8-60-01
and the DAG8-60-04 motorized elevator stages,
driven by two-phase stepper motors, feature
3-µm positional accuracy and a resolution of 0.5
µm when driven with a 10 microsteps-per-step micro-stepping stepper
motor driver. The laboratory-grade, high-resolution, compact, lowprofile
elevator stages feature 8 mm of vertical travel. The 60 60 mm
table with a 4 kg load capacity has a pattern of threaded holes for
tooling and fixtures. Maximum travel speed is 10 mm per second.

n Motorized Stages
PI Americas, Auburn, MA, has introduced
several new families of motorized
linear and rotary stages tailored
for precision automation,
motion control, and positioning applications.
All product lines are powered by noncontact, 3-phase linear
or torque motors and are equipped with integrated directmeasuring
linear encoders. The V-141 compact linear stage family is
available in travel ranges of 40, 60, and 100 mm. The V-571 ultra-high
precision linear stage family features a body width of 95 mm and is
available in four travel ranges from 25 to 100 mm. The V-827 widebody
linear stage family was designed for higher-load applications
with travel ranges up to 1 m.

n Electromagnetic Buzzers
Raltron, Miami, FL, has released
a series of electromagnetic
buzzers. Designed for applications
requiring high sound pressure level
(SPL) buzzers and alarms, the
RBE series offers some of the
loudest devices in the industry,
making them ideal for medical devices
and healthcare systems. The buzzers operate in a frequency
range of 2800-4000 Hz, providing a clear, distinct tone that can cut
through background noise. The series offers 16 models with SPLs of
90 dB and above (up to 100 dB) and features operating voltages of 3,
5, 9, 12, 24, and 48 VDC.
