Al observar lo que influye la selección de alimentos para la merienda,
una buena relación entre la calidad y
el precio es importante para ambos
grupos de consumidores, pero sólo
el 20% de los Milenios y el 11% de
los Baby Boomers encuestados buscan
artículos de marca para la merienda.
En otras investigaciones, los
adultos más jóvenes reportan un
mayor gasto en los alimentos especializados que los Boomers y los consumidores de mayor edad. Y los consumidores mayores compran alimentos
especializados más para todos los
días en casa, según la Asociación de
Alimentación Especializada.

"En general, los consumidores
de alimentos especializados tienen
estos alimentos y bebidas a la mano
para el uso regular, ya sea como una
merienda o una comida diaria o como
un antojo especial," dice Denise
Purcell, directora senior de desarrollo
de contenidos para la Asociación de
Alimentación Especializada. "Este
interés diario es un buen augurio para
el mercado en general."
Los resultados se basan en una
encuesta en línea realizada por
Mintel International en junio de
2014 de 1,649 adultos mayores de
18 años de edad. Los resultados se
publican en la edición de otoño de
la revista Specialty Food Magazine. Los
alimentos especializados se definen
como alimentos de primera calidad.
Estos alimentos pueden ser hechos
por fabricantes pequeños o locales,
tienen sabores étnicos exóticos, usan
los mejores ingredientes disponibles
o son alimentos únicos.

Otros puntos destacados de
investigación son los siguientes:
Las personas de 18 a 24 años
de edad fueron los más probables consumidores del chocolate, alimentos salados, postres
congelados y alimentos listos
para consumir.
El 59 por ciento de los
adultos en Estados Unidos
compró productos alimenticios
e sp e c i a l i z a d o s e n l o s ú l t i m o s
seis meses.
El 42 por ciento de los adultos
encuestados dijo que prueban
nuevos alimentos con el fin de
comer más sanamente.
La mayoría de consumidores
de alimentos especializados tienen
entre 18 y 44 años de edad y son
ricos, con ingresos mayores de
$75,000 al año.
Las mujeres son más propensas
que los hombres a comprar productos
alimenticios especializados.
