LIQUID ASSETS Syrups vs. Grounds Coffee drinkers who prefer flavored coffee belong to one of two schools: flavored coffee beans/ grounds or flavored syrups. Coffee. org, an online coffee wholesaler, breaks down the differences between coffee that has been flavored with syrup versus flavored coffee grounds—and what coffee drinkers might be more likely to prefer. You also have the convenience of only having to brew one pot of plain black coffee, should you choose to flavor coffee by the cup, rather than adding syrup to the filter basket. Cons: The biggest drawback to flavored syrups is the high sugar content and calorie count. However, many suppliers have sugar-free varieties of syrups available. You also want to consider how many different flavored syrups you want to offer and the shelf-life of the syrups versus how popular the demand is for them. In the end, it all comes down to your customer preferences and the amount of time and money you want to invest in your coffee program. If your shop has a high-end coffee element, and you’re known for gourmet coffee, you might want to consider adding flavored beans or grounds to your line. If you’re just looking to add convenient options for your coffeedrinking customers, adding one or two flavor shots for an upcharge might be the way to go.
