"It was important to me, as chairman, that
we leave something in the community," Mr.
Osborne said. "We may not all be Bill Gates,
but it's important to leave a little dent where
we can. That's the whole idea with this service
day - to be thankful and make a little dent."
BEMA has also partnered with member
companies as well as bakers to support the
causes that mean the most to them.
In 2017 the association donated a total of
$2,500 to Heart to Heart International for hurricane relief. And at the 2017 Convention's
"reverse black tie" chairman's dinner, attendees donned casual attire in exchange
for monetary donations to the CROP Hunger
Walk, which supports grassroots hunger

the world. BEMA families donated nearly
$7,500 to the CROP Hunger Walk.
And when Rich Berger, vice-president of
engineering and food supply for Clif Bar &
Company, presented a case study on the
startup of Clif Bar Baking Company of Twin
Falls, ID, at the 2017 convention, the bakHU\GRQDWHG¿YHWUHHVRQ%(0$¶VEHKDOIIRU
every person who attended the session. A

In support of military troops overseas,
BEMA has worked with Burford Corp. to
¿OO ER[HV ZLWK IRRG DQG VQDFNV SHUVRQDO
care supplies, entertainment items, and
notes of encouragement for the company's
Operation Military Care. BEMA donated 30
boxes for the initiative.
Locally, BEMA attends Corbion's annual
event to build holiday meal kits for Kansas
City, MO-based Harvesters Food Bank,
the area's only Feeding America Food
Bank. At this annual event, Corbion packs
about 10,000 meals. "We were grateful
that Corbion invited us to help pack these
meals," said Kerwin Brown, BEMA president
and CEO. "We're excited to see how all our
members give back to their communities
during the holidays."
