Reiser celebrates 50th anniversary

Robert Reiser & Co., Canton, MA, reached a major
milestone as it celebrated
its 50th year of supplying
the food industry with a
wide variety of innovative
food processing and packaging equipment.
In 1959, the company
began to import Germanmade food processing
equipment for resale to North American
meat packers and food processors. Also
in that year, Reiser became the exclusive
North American sales and service agent for
Vemag, a German manufacturer of food
processing equipment best known for its
line of continuous vacuum stuffers.
In 1962, Reiser added Seydelmann cutters and grinders to its product line. In
1971, the company brought in Holac dicers
and slicers, and then in 1980, Fomaco injectors and tenderizers joined the lineup.
Along the way, the company continued to
add other complementary lines of equip-
ment, including Ross tray
packaging, AMFEC meat
processing equipment, Supervac vacuum packaging
equipment and, most recently, Repak form/fill/seal
packaging equipment.
As the business grew, so
did Reiser. In 1984, Reiser
moved to its current headquarters in Canton. To better serve its international customers, Reiser
opened an office in Canada in 1987 and in
England in 1993.
Today, Reiser owns a majority interest in
many of the same companies it represents,
including Ross Industries, AMFEC, Vemag
and Holac. The company's commitment
to the food processing industry is stronger
than ever. A new Customer Center is under
construction at the headquarters in Canton
and is slated to open later this year. The
center will be used for demonstrations of
Reiser equipment and to allow customers to
test new products and processes.

Tasty Baking Co. moved into
new corporate headquarters
located in the Philadelphia Navy Yard
Corporate Center. The offices occupy
36,000 sq ft and are expected to achieve
the US Green Building Council's LEED
Gold certification. The second phase of the
relocation, which includes a 345,500 sq-ft
manufacturing facility, distribution center
and warehouse, is still scheduled to be fully
operational by June 2010.
Frito-Lay will introduce the
first fully compostable snack
chip bag made from plant-based materials in 2010 through its SunChips line.
The Campbell Soup Co. entered an agreement to acquire
Ecce Panis, Inc. The maker of handcrafted, stone-baked artisan bread that is

Lance Inc. has made progress
toward the relaunch of a cookie line sold under the Archway
brand. Lance, which acquired Archway
out of bankruptcy in December 2008,
began shipping Archway cookies again in
January. The company is baking and
marketing the top 21 Archway items.
The Independent Bakers
Association named Sens.
Richard Lugar and Mark
Pryor as recipients of the Horst G. Denk
Legislative Service Award. The award is
given annually to two members of Congress based on their support on key issues
related to the baking and food industry.
Based in Grand Rapids, MI, Hearthside is
a contract manufacturer of specialty foods
such as granola bars, croutons, cereal,
popcorn and snack mixes.
Aunt Millie's donated more
than $40,000 to the Make-AWish Foundation as a part of its annual Aunt's Day campaign. The donation
will help grant the wishes of children battling life-threatening medical conditions.

named one of the 2009 World's
