Flowers Foods, Thomasville, GA, elected Allen L. Shiver president of Flowers
Foods effective Jan. 1. George E. Deese will
continue to serve as chairman of the board

Roach will oversee sales and operations
for a newly created region within the company that includes five Flowers bakeries in
Georgia and Alabama.
Fleischer's Bagels, Inc.,
Macedon, NY, promoted
Eric Kestenblatt to the
newly created position of
senior director, planning/
KESTENBLATT development. Mr. Kestenblatt will be responsible for driving
the company's aggressive lean manufacturing, new product development and
management training initiatives.
Thomas Becker was named director of
operations. Mr. Becker will manage all
day-to-day facets of the Macedon, NY,
facility. He has 30 years of operations
leadership experience.
The Bread Bakers Guild of America, Sonoma, CA, elected Solveig Tofte and Tod
Bramble to the Guild's Board of Directors
for 3-year terms. Ms. Tofte, head baker
at The Turtle Bread Co., represented the
Bread Bakers Guild Team USA 2008 in the
baguette and specialty breads category.
Mr. Bramble is an employee-owner of
King Arthur Flour Co. and national sales
manager for its bakery flour division.
Shelby Weeda, president of King's Hawaiian, Torrance, CA, retired from the company in December. During Mr. Weeda's
30-year tenure, the company's revenue
increased more than $110 million.

Mallet and Co., Carnegie, PA, hired Mark
Mulberry as sales rep covering the South Central States
and Mexico. Mr. Mulbery
worked for the company for
close to 10 years before taking a 2-year absence.

Lantmännen Unibake, Horsens, Denmark, appointed Gustaf Tynelius sustainability
manager. Mr. Tynelius
will be responsible for implementing the company's climate strategy.
Power Engineers, Inc., Hailey, ID, hired
John Brink as senior project manager in
the company's Atlanta, GA, office. Mr.
Brink will focus on building and infrastructure projects for food facilities.
William (Bill) Charles Hurley, PhD,
died Nov. 18. He was 78. Dr. Hurley
was a professor of cereal chemistry at
Kansas State University, Department of
Grain Science and Industry, Manhattan, KS. He was also an industry leader
with the American Association of Cereal Chemists (AACC), serving as chairman of the Milling and Baking Division
and as AACC chairman of the board
and president.
In retirement he discovered a new
fascination with computer technology
and served as a board member of the
Lake Country Computer Club, teaching computer technology classes for the
community education department of
the Pequot Lakes School District.
He is survived by his children: Anne
Hurley, Mary Hurley, Judith Mata,
Joann Hautejarvi, Douglas Sexton,
Donna Skoglund, Frank Sexton and
Frances M Steckelberg.
