199,100 cwts, unchanged from the 2023 edition.
United States
* ADM Milling deleted its 6,000-cwts facility in New
Braunfels, TX.
* Ardent Mills decreased capacity by 850 cwts at its
facility in Omaha, NE; decreased capacity by 700 cwts
at its facility in Mount Pocono, PA; and increased
capacity by 2,000 cwts at its facility in Chattanooga,
TN.
* Bartlett Milling Co. increased capacity by 5,000 cwts
at its facility in Wilson's Mills, NC.
* Miller Milling increased capacity by 3,900 cwts at its
facility in Commerce, CA.
* Taste Maker Foods added a 2,000 cwts facility in
Hernando, MS, and deleted a 2,000-cwts facility in
Memphis, TN.
Durum milling capacity changes
US durum capacity is 135,233 cwts, unchanged from
the 2023 edition. Canadian durum capacity is 23,492
cwts, up 6,000 cwts from the 2022 edition.
Canada
* Ardent Mills added a 6,700 cwts facility in Saskatoon,
SK.
Other facility changes
* Big Creek Mills added its Altona, MB, facility to
Canadian gluten-free, Canadian oat, Canadian organic
and Canadian specialty.
* Dawn Foods deleted a mix facility in Seattle, WA.
* Grain Millers, Inc. added a Canadian organic facility
in Yorkton, SK.
* The Mennel Milling Co. added a dry corn facility in
Newton, NC.
* Quaker Foods added a gluten-free facility in Cedar
Rapids, IA.
* Rogers Foods, Inc. added an organic facility in
Armstrong, BC.
* Taste Maker Foods, Inc. deleted a mix facility in
Memphis, TN, and added a mix facility in Hernando,
MS.

* James Doyle was named president of King Milling Co.
He succeeds Brian Doyle, who has been president of the
company since 1995. Brian Doyle, who was also elected
chairman of the North American Millers' Association,
became chairman of King Milling. In other promotions
announced by King Milling, Patrick Doyle was named
executive vice president of the company and Regan
Doyle was promoted to vice president of operations.
Jim Doyle was first employed at the mill when he
was 15 years old, and he continued working at the mill
through the summers of his high school and college
years, He graduated in 1981 from Michigan State
University, East Lansing, with a degree in business. He
completed a three-week IAOM/Kansas State University
milling short course in 1983.
At King Milling after college graduation, Jim Doyle
was named vice president of grain procurement, a
title that later changed to senior vice president and
then executive vice president. He had held the latter
assignment for three years before his elevation to
president.
Both Jim Doyle and Brian Doyle are fourthgeneration
members of the Doyle family involved in
King Milling and are grandsons of William Doyle, who
led the business in the 1940s. Jim Doyle's father Roland
M. (Mike) Doyle, who died in 2003, was a longtime
executive at King Milling and was a past president of
the IAOM.
* Mondelez International, Inc. held a day-long
celebration Oct. 8 to mark the 130th anniversary of its
biscuit flour mill in Toledo, OH. The mill is the largest
dedicated soft wheat mill in North America, according

to Mondelez, and has storage capacity of 5.5 million
bushels of wheat. It processes over 1,500 tons of flour
on an average day. The flour is shipped to Mondelez
bakeries across North America and then used to make
snacks, including Oreo and Chips Ahoy! cookies and
Ritz crackers. The mill began operations in 1892 and
became part of the National Biscuit Co. (Nabisco) in
1926.
* Ardent Mills powered 30% of its total operations
with renewable energy in 2022, an increase of seven
percentage points from 2021, according to its most
recent corporate responsibility report.The calculation
includes direct sourcing of renewable energy and
retaining of renewable energy credits (RECs),
participating in community solar projects and purchase
of replacement RECs.
The sustainability report outlines the company's
work toward aligning with the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals. It examines progress
across three pillars: sustainability, people and nutrition.
Along with its renewable energy usage, Ardent
enrolled 250,913 acres in regenerative agriculture
initiatives intended to help ensure productive and
profitable farmland by improving soil health and
conserving water. This year, the company expanded on
its 2025 goal to work toward 750,000 acres enrolled. It
also measured 145,129 program acres utilizing no-till
farming practices.
Additionally, Ardent added eight facilities to the
organic material waste diversion program, totaling 15
locations, one-third of the way toward the company's
goal to have all 45 facilities participating. It saved
4.8 million gallons of water through wash cycle
maximization.
* North Dakota Mill and Elevator, the only state-owned
flour mill in the United States, recently celebrated its
100th anniversary with a ceremony on its 100-acre site
on the north side of Grand Forks.
The North Dakota Industrial Commission, which
oversees the mill's operations, joined employees of
the North Dakota Mill, local officials, customers and
suppliers to celebrate the milestone, as well as the
recent commissioning of the new H and I milling units
and the conversion of the D milling unit, resulting in a
22% increase in total milling capacity.
The North Dakota Mill and Elevator Association
was created in 1919 by House Bill 20 and began its
operations in Grand Forks on Oct. 30, 1922. The cost of
the state mill at that time was just over $3 million ($53.3
million in 2022 dollars).

* Colleen Zammer was promoted to vice president of
varietal solutions growth and corporate innovation at
Bay State Milling Co. Zammer has more than 30 years
of experience in innovation and functional ingredients.
In her new role, Zammer leads commercialization
for Bay State's proprietary ingredients while continuing
to oversee research and development innovation for
the company's entire portfolio of ingredients. She was
previously vice president of research and development.
Zammer joined Bay State Milling in 2010 after 21
years in product development, market development and
sales leadership for beverage and ingredient companies.

* Insect protein producer Ynsect plans to construct
a large-scale farm project within the United States
beginning in late 2023 and is exploring potential flour
and ingredient synergies with Ardent Mills.
" We see many synergies with Ynsect - as we both
strive to transform the way the world is nourished, " said
Angie Goldberg, chief growth officer for Ardent Mills.
" We are excited to be exploring potential sustainable
food and ingredient opportunities with Ynsect, a
company that has developed a unique expertise in
insect-based ingredient production. This collaboration
is the second partnership between insect protein
makers and US manufacturers, with ADM aiding in the
construction of Innova Feed's new facility in Decatur, IL.
* Bob's Red Mill has partnered with the Pacific Coast
Food Waste Commitment and TripleWin Advisory, to
cut food waste at its operations in half by 2030. In
collaboration with PCFWC and TripleWin, Bob's Red
Mill developed an employee engagement campaign
to reduce food waste at its whole grain milling and
packaging facility in Milwaukie. The company hosted a
pilot program challenging employees to come up with
ideas to reduce food waste from milling to packaging, to
innovation, receiving and quality.
According to Bob's Red Mill, employees submitted
a total of 176 food waste reduction ideas. The company
chose one quick-win (minimal effort, no-to-low cost)
idea to test. The test required a change to a whole
grain packaging line that resulted in more than 70%
reduction in wasted food per pound of food produced,
the company said.
The pilot sought to simultaneously engage
employees on the issue of food waste and identify
no-to-low-cost measures to prevent food waste in the
company's manufacturing facility over the short term
and long term, according to Bob's Red Mill.
* Star of the West Milling Co. received a $4.9 million
grant as part of the USDA Partnerships for ClimateSmart
Commodities. The funds will be spread out
over the five-year life of the project, which is called " A
climate smart strategy for the Michigan foodshed. "
As part of the partnership, Star of the West said
it will work hand-in-hand with Michigan growers
to document and reward existing climate-smart
management and help support new management for
food crops. Meanwhile, a " climate smart " agronomist
will help farmers collect data and use technology
platforms compatible with their farm. Star of the West
will then assist food companies in sourcing these
climate-smart grains to use in their products.

* Greg Garrett joined Ardent Mills as director of
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). In his new
role, Garrett will be responsible for the creation,
implementation and ongoing evolution of Ardent Mills'
DEI framework. Additionally, the DEI team will develop
targeted programs and initiatives that attract, hire, and
maintain a diverse and inclusive workplace and support
Ardent Mills' pursuit to lead the industry toward a more
equitable environment, the company said.
Garrett joins Ardent Mills from Westfield, where he
worked cross functionally to integrate DEI initiatives
across distribution, marketing and HR groups, provided
oversight and support to ERGs that increased cultural
competence, and strengthened employee engagement
and drove incremental revenue growth. Earlier, he held
DEI roles at Asurion and State Farm.
* Nicole Gasaway joined Bay State Milling Co. as
the company's first chief people and impact officer.
Gasaway plays a key role in the cultural evolution
and continued strategic growth of Bay State Milling,
focusing on talent development, advancing the
company's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion, and more.
Gasaway has more than 25 years of experience
in human resources, most recently as senior vice
president of human resources and communications at
Blue Diamond Growers. Earlier, she was vice president
and chief human resources officer at Wakefern Food
Corp. She also has had HR leadership roles at Unilever,
General Mills and Rolls-Royce PLC.

* ADM closed its flour mill in New Braunfels, TX. The
company said it regularly reviews its global footprint to
determine whether assets are best positioned to meet
customer needs and advance its growth strategy.
The company determined that the New Braunfels
mill no longer aligned with its milling business's future
operational needs.
The New Braunfels mill has 6,000 cwts of daily
milling capacity, equating to 2.2% of the company's
total US milling capacity.
