Chairman’s Welcome
All together now: “Welcome to IBIE 2013!”
It is my great pleasure to join baking professionals from around the world and across
every segment of the grain-based food market in welcoming you to your industry’s most
comprehensive trade event of the year.
And comprehensive it is. Each time The Baking Expo™ convenes, it is bigger, better
and more expansive than before. In 2010, we saw a huge jump in participation. That
momentum is continuing in 2013, with another significant increase in exhibitors—
more than 750, in fact, occupying 500,000 net square feet of exhibit space, which
now also includes new product categories for pizza, transportation and safety &
sanitation. We’re also working with the Department of Commerce’s International Buyer Program to attract and
support our international delegations from more than 80 countries.
More new solutions, product launches and resources. Equipment, supplies and ingredients for every industry
sector. Baking experts from all over the world. They’re “All Together Now” at IBIE, in abundant evidence of our
2013 theme. So you should have no trouble making the connections and finding the new ideas, technologies
and process innovations that will help you more efficiently meet your customers’ demands.
“Efficiency” is the watchword this year. As consolidation at the top alters the playing field, industry emphasis
is now on full utilization of capital assets to add new capacity. This trend of maximizing production efficiency is
apparent in plants of all sizes, driven by internal cost-saving measures as well as customer demands. Consumers
are also having their say when it comes to healthier-for-you baked goods and planet-friendly processes. And let’s
not forget the government, which is making things interesting with an ever more complex round of regulations
and controls.
Keeping you up to speed on industry developments is one of the many important aspects of IBIE, and this year,
we’re working with several organizations to provide additional value to your Expo experience. Thanks to our show
sponsors the American Bakers Association (ABA), the Bakery Equipment Manufacturers and Allieds (BEMA)
and the Retail Bakers of America (RBA) who, along with others, have been instrumental in providing new show
features, competitions, demonstrations and the largest education program we have ever offered. I would also like
to extend my thanks to IBIE 2013 Committee, the IBIE staff, Marketing Design Group and SmithBucklin, and
all those who support IBIE and our sponsoring organizations. Your contributions to the Baking Expo’s success
