Bakers at IBIE 2016 will be on the prowl for the latest
and greatest in equipment. "Automation will always
be a big part of any show because that's what people
come to see: what they can do to reduce labor to
make their lines more efficient," said Dennis Gunnell,
vice-president, sales and marketing, Formost Fuji.
The packaging department, with all its diversity and
changeovers, is no exception. Bakers will walk the
tradeshow floor, keeping their eyes peeled for ways to
speed up, clean up and diversify their packaging lines.
"As bakeries are upgraded and new bakeries are
built, the production rates continue to increase," said
Clay Miller, sales engineer, Burford Corp. "We continue to be challenged to run at higher speeds with
our servo tyers and our tape closure systems. We are
continually working on ways to increase speed while
maintaining quality."
Burford is currently working on a system that will
move the servo tyer at a controlled speed while maintaining production rates. This will minimize bag and
product damage while keeping the package properly
aligned for printing downstream. Information on this
system will be available at IBIE.
Understanding the importance of speed in packaging, TNA has improved its Robag series of verti-
cal form/fill/seal packaging machines with its Robag
Auto-Splice. This technology automatically splices
film during the packaging process, fully completing a
cycle in less than 15 seconds. By combining the splicer with TNA's high-speed bagger, the Robag FX 3ci,
the company now offers a streamlined turnkey solution for vertical packaging that improves output and
overall line efficiency.
Streamlined production is always an improvement
bakers are on the lookout for, and no section of the
bakery could be in more need of streamlining than
packaging.
"In the past, the majority of bakers bought individual components for their packaging line from different suppliers, looking for the specialist in each area,"
said Mark Lozano, sales manager, North America,
TNA. "However, product managers are now increasingly looking for a partnership with a single-source
supplier and are specifying total systems. These turnkey systems significantly simplify machine integration and offer [bakers] increased control over the operations within their plant, allowing them to optimize
processes, limit costs and reduce time to market."
Speed continues to
dominate innovation in
packaging as bakers try
to wrap things up faster
than ever.
