will again be instantly recognizable as the IDDBA show. But the IDDBA
team in Madison (WI) has been working hard to make this year's show
different in many ways. I'll highlight a few:
* Safe Food Matters! Focus on Allergens: IDDBA helped the industry
serve safer food with the Safe Food Matters! Focus in Listeria. This year,
we're launching a focus on allergens. Food allergies are a concern for
a growing number of people across the world. Our fresh departments
cannot afford to be behind the curve when it comes to providing safe,
dependable, and above all delicious food to people with allergies
and their families. At the Dairy-Deli-Bake Seminar & Expo you'll hear
messages about allergens from the main stage, in the Show & Sell Center,
and throughout the expo floor.
* New Product Showcase: We heard from our attendees that one of the
biggest reasons to come to the show was to learn about new products.
We're working on a redesign of the New Product Showcase to help them
learn more about the innovations in our industry while they're with us
in Houston.
* Cake Decorating Challenge: This year, we're giving our attendees a
voice. We're still working with our terrific professional judges, but we
know that everyone who stops to look at the amazing cakes our contestants produce has an opinion. So, if you have the myIDDBA App (or

myIDDBA.com), you can vote for your favorite. Once you've registered
for the show, you'll get an invitation to download the app. It'll bring
another level of excitement and interactivity to the Cake Decorating
Challenge, and strengthen community at the show.
The perimeter of supermarkets is gaining a lot of momentum. How
do you think that will be evident at the show?
IDDBA and Dairy-Deli-Bake is all about the perimeter of the supermarket. As we've been traveling throughout the world visiting stores,
we've been seeing some incredible innovations in deli, bakery, cheese,
and prepared foods. Things we've seen in Europe are making their
way to the US. A few weeks ago I was at a meeting in Pasadena, CA, and
I saw a world-class collection of bakeries. One of them had an interesting selection of Asian-inspired pastries. At Dairy-Deli-Bake Seminar
& Expo, you can expect to see new products, new merchandising,
and excitement for our categories. Fresh is growing, and we're here to
foster that growth!
On our show floor, the Show & Sell Center is a great place to see cutting
edge merchandising. Over the years, we've put together a team of some
of the most creative minds in dairy, deli, bakery, cheese, and foodservice - and it shows. They're putting together concepts to help make the
supermarket an exciting place to be. And we need that excitement as
we feel pressure from just about everywhere. In some
cities you can order a meal from your phone, and an Uber
driver will drop it off in 15 minutes. That's pressure.
What goes into selecting the speakers for the show
and what can attendees expect from their messages?
Dairy-Deli-Bake Seminar & Expo is one of the only places
you'll get a chance to hear speakers like Jerry Seinfeld,
Anthony Bourdain, and JJ Watt in person. It's definitely
one of the only places you'll get a chance to meet people
like Lidia Bastianich, Phil Lempert, and Max McCalman.
One of our goals in building our speaker lineup was to
appeal to all of our attendees. The show is about people,
food safety, technology, and community. We have
seminar and Show & Sell Workshop speakers who will
address all of those things, but they'll also talk about business, inspiration, and FUN.
How have the needs of IDDBA members changed
over the last year, and what can they expect to gain
over these next few days?
Every year it gets more important to keep up with our
changing industry. IDDBA's mission is to help grow the
dairy, deli, and bakery categories by being a relevant
