John Klein to join Washington U.
in leading administrative role
ST. LOUIS - John E. Klein, chairman of
Bunge North America, has been named executive vice-chancellor for administration
at Washington University in St. Louis. Mr.
Klein assumes his new post Sept. 1.
The academic assignment follows Mr.
Klein's retirement earlier this year as
president and chief executive officer of
Bunge North America.
"I look forward to joining Washington
University and becoming involved in academia after a 28-year business career with
Bunge," Mr. Klein said. "Since we moved
to St. Louis in 1990, I have been most impressed with my contacts with Washington
University and am very pleased to have
been offered this opportunity to become
a part of such a vital institution with such
great students, faculty and administration
and such a strong national reputation."

As chief administrative officer, Mr. Klein
will be responsible for the school's central
fiscal unit, including finance
and administration, administrative information technology,
facilities, human resources and
other administrative units that
serve the university. Washington University has an annual
budget exceeding $1.5 billion
and a $4-billion endowment.
Mr. Klein was president
and c.e.o. of Bunge from 1985
until his retirement. Earlier, he Klein
had a number of international
assignments with the company beginning in 1976. Back in the United States in
1981, he received several promotions, to
vice-president, senior vice-president and
executive vice-president and president.

Mr. Klein holds an undergraduate degree from Princeton University and a law
degree from the University of Michigan.
Before joining Bunge, he was an attorney
with Sullivan & Cromwell in New York.
Since moving to St. Louis in 1990, Mr.
Klein has had an active role
at Washington University and
other civic institutions. He is on
the national council of the University's John M. Olin School of
Business and previously was a
trustee and treasurer of Mary
Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School.
Founded in 1853, Washington University teaches 6,509
undergraduates and 5,579
graduate and professional
students, as well as 1,384 part-time students. The university offers more than
90 programs and nearly 1,500 courses
in a broad spectrum of traditional and

company's vice-president and treasurer last week, effective June 30.
Mr. Archer spent 26 years with ADM in various capacities, beginning his career in its internal audit department. He had worked
in the company's soybean processing division, its Alfred C. Toepfer
GmbH trading division and the company's corporate financial department before taking over as treasurer in November 2002.
"Chuck made numerous contributions to the success of
the company during his many years of service and we wish
him the best in his future endeavors," said G. Allen Andreas,
ADM's chairman and chief executive.
Mr. Archer's father, the late Shreve M. Archer Jr., retired
from the company's board of directors in 1998 after a 50-year

Linguagen names new
chief executive officer
CRANBURY, N.J. - Linguagen Corp., a developer of tasteenhancement ingredients, has named Dr. F. Raymond (Ray)
Salemme as its chief executive officer.
Dr. Salemme, the company said, will help set the strategic vision for Linguagen in food, beverage and pharmaceutical markets while overseeing day-to-day operations of the company.
Shawn M. Marcell, the company's acting c.e.o., will remain
with Linguagen as chief operating officer.
Dr. Salemme previously was president and chief scientific
officer of 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals, which he founded
in 1993. He has co-invented 21 products with U.S. patents, and
he also has been a professor of biochemistry at the University
of Arizona. He received a bachelor of arts degree in molecular
biophysics at Yale University and a doctorate in chemistry at
the University of California-San Diego.
Several leading food-related companies, including Cargill, Inc. and Danisco, have injected equity financing into
Linguagen during the past year as it seeks development of
compounds aimed at allowing food manufacturers to use less
sugar, salt and other flavoring additives in their products. MBN
