Co-branding carbohydrate
Sara Lee is not the only grain-based foods
company to join forces with Atkins. Bimbo
Bakeries USA, Fort Worth, Texas, has added
to its Oroweat line of bread a carbohydrateconscious product that carries the Atkins'
brand (see Milling & Baking News of March
16, Page 46).
Oroweat Carb Counting Atkins branded
bread is available in multigrain and 100%
whole-wheat varieties. The packaging touts
the bread as a good source of fiber and
states that each serving has six grams of net
carbohydrates. Since its debut earlier this
year the bread has accumulated $5.9 million
in sales, according to I.R.I.

Dawn appeal
In February, Dawn Food Products, Inc.,
Jackson, Mich., launched Carb Appeal, a
line of frozen, ready-to-eat controlled-carbohydrate and sugar-free bakery products.
The Dawn Carb Appeal line includes 2.25-oz

muffins, 0.85-oz mini muffins, half-ring creme
cakes and two varieties of 7-inch decorated,
round iced white cakes.
The muffins and half-ring cakes are available in blueberry, double chocolate, carrot
with walnuts, lemon poppy, apple spice
and banana nut flavors.

come in a 12-oz package and have a suggested
retail price of $4.49. The Chewy Chocolate
Chip Cookies are available in a 9-oz package
and have a suggested retail price of $3.99. The
Fabulous Fudge Nut Brownie contains eight
net carbohydrates per serving at a suggested
retail price of $4.99. The Crumb Topped
French Butter Cake weighs 23.6 oz and has a
suggested retail price of $4.99. The Chocolate
Chip & Nut Loaf and Moist & Luscious Butter Loaf both weigh 14 oz and have suggested
retail prices of $4.79 and $3.99, respectively.
According to I.R.I. data, Entemann's Carb
Counting line as a whole produced sales of $4.7
million in the 52-week period ended April 18,
with the No. 1 performing product in the line
