Bunge expands in Vietnam with
10-year port agreement
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Bunge Ltd. on
Dec. 14 said it has signed a 10-year exclusive throughput agreement for Phu My
Port in Vietnam.
Bunge said the pact will enhance its
position as the leading supplier of soybean meal to Vietnam's growing animal
feed and livestock industries.
The agreement was signed between
Bunge Agribusiness Singapore Pte., Ltd.,
which is Bunge's primary operating subsidiary in Asia, and Baria Serece Joint Venture Co., the operator of Phu My Port.
The agreement commits Bunge to
use the port to supply its customers in
Vietnam and provides Bunge exclusive
access to the facility for shipments of
agricultural commodities.
Bunge and Baria Serece have agreed

to partner on future logistics at the port,
located less than 50 miles from Ho Chi
Minh City. Situated on the Thi Vai river,
the port is Vietnam's leading port for dry
bulk cargo and is one of the country's
only ports capable of receiving Panamax
class ships.
Bunge said the port is strategically located near the provinces and regions of
Vietnam with the majority of the nation's
population and commercial feed mill operations.
"Vietnam is the fastest growing market
for the domestic use of soybean meal
and corn in ASEAN (The Association of
Southeast Asian Nations), and is among
the fastest growing in the world," said
Christopher White, regional general manager - Asia. "Bunge's partnership with

Dunkin' Brands adopted as new name
for Allied Domecq quick-service unit
CANTON, MASS. - In a move designed to
leverage the power of the Dunkin' Donuts
brand, Allied Domecq P.L.C. last week changed
the name of its Allied Domecq Quick Service
Restaurants unit to Dunkin' Brands, Inc.
Dunkin' Brands includes Dunkin' Donuts, Baskin-Robbins and Togo's.
"The reality is that Q.S.R. is an investor
term, meaningless to people who enjoy our
foods and beverages," said Jon Luther, chief
executive officer, Dunkin' Brands. "Instead,
Dunkin' Brands will create a new 'quickquality' model that will offer a higher
evolution of the standard quick dining experience, with best-in-class products, clever
concepts, convenience, value pricing, speed
of service and fresh food."
In addition to the name change, Dunkin'
Brands will have a new "eatdrinkthink" tag

line. The company is moving into a new corporate office, located at Canton, southwest
of Boston.
The company also lowered the "u" in
the Dunkin' Brands logo
to suggest "dippin' and
dunkin," it said. The
moves are part of a rebranding effort designed
to solidify the company's
position as a leader in
building brands in the "quick-quality" food
and beverage category, the company said.
"We've leveraged the brand equity and
success of Dunkin' Donuts to create a name
that clearly identifies our business and provides immediate recognition in the global
marketplace," Mr. Luther said. "The rebranding has created renewed motivation

"In the last five years, commercial
feed production in Vietnam has grown
at over 10% per year, and annual per
capita growth in meat consumption
has exceeded 7%. We believe that this
growth will continue or even accelerate

The U.S. Department of Agriculture
estimated that Vietnam imported 990,000
tonnes of soybean meal in 2003. The Foreign Agricultural Service estimated that
the livestock sector accounts for 20% of
the total value of Vietnam's agricultural
production.

With the move to new corporate headquarters, Dunkin' Brands for the first time
will have the majority of its operations for
the brands under one
roof, including test kitchens for all three brands

Looking ahead, Mr. Luther said Dunkin'
Brands growth will come through innovation as opposed to acquisition. He cited the
company's launch of espresso-based beverages as an example of such innovation.

Sucralose demand forces Tate & Lyle to turn away new customers
LONDON - Tate & Lyle will not take on new customer requests
in the United States for sucralose as a food ingredient until expansions at a plant in McIntosh, Ala., come on line in early 2006,
the London-based company said in a statement.
Demand for sucralose, which goes by the brand name Splenda,
has exceeded Tate & Lyle's expectations. Tate & Lyle has decided
to prioritize existing customer requirements since production
and demand volumes now are aligned.
"We will work with our customer base in order to manage
their sucralose requirements going forward," the company said.
After taking over the McIntosh plant in April, Tate & Lyle
has announced plans to invest $75 million to expand the facility in stages. Plant output, because of the expansions, should be
doubled by early 2006. In addition, Tate & Lyle in November an-

nounced plans to invest $175 million in building a new sucralose
manufacturing plant in Singapore. That plant should be completed by January 2007 and should have a capacity of two-thirds
of the McIntosh plant after expansions in McIntosh.
"By January 2007, we will have more than tripled sucralose
manufacturing output compared to the level at the time of the
realignment of the Splenda sucralose business in April 2004," Ian
Ferguson, chief executive of Tate & Lyle, said in November.
General Mills, Inc., Minneapolis, is an existing customer of
Splenda. The company uses the sweetener in its Trix, Cinnamon
Toast Crunch and Cocoa Puffs cereals that have 75% less sugar
than the original cereals.
Splenda sucralose is a no-calorie sweetener that is about 600
