Seban joins Interstate Bakeries
as chief marketing officer
KANSAS CITY - Richard C. Seban,
a veteran executive in the consumer
packaged goods field, with 30 years
experience in sales, marketing and new
product development, has been named
chief marketing officer at Interstate
Bakeries Corp. The appointment comes
at a time when I.B.C. is reinvigorating
product development and reenergizing
sales and marketing by placing a premium on speed, focus and innovation.
Mr. Seban most recently was president and chief operating officer of

High Liner Foods, Inc., a Nova Scotia-based processor and marketer of
frozen seafood and pasta products.
While at High Liner Foods, he led the
company into new strategic business
channels and successfully launched
major new products.
From 1983 to 1995, he held several positions at Sara Lee Bakery, including as
vice-president of customer marketing.

Fritz chief executive officer
MANHATTAN, KAS. - The Kansas
Wheat Commission and the Kansas
Association of Wheat Growers have
named Dusti Fritz as chief executive officer of the Kansas wheat organizations,
which earlier this year were combined as
one of the key points of the cooperative
agreement signed by the two groups.
Ms. Fritz most recently was interim
administrator of the K.W.C. since May
and assistant administrator since join-

BEMA names Gude chairman of the board;
association shifts headquarters to Kansas
OVERLAND PARK, KAS. - BEMA, the baking industry suppliers association, recently announced it has relocated its headquarters and elected new board members.
G. Michael Gude, director of publishing for Food Business News at Sosland Publishing Co., Kansas City, was named chairman of the board. He succeeds Richard I.
Hoskins III., Colborne Corp.
A BEMA representative for 22 years, Mr. Gude has been a
member of the public relations and trade relations committees,
as well as an officer of the board for the past four years.
"In the past, unless you were an equipment supplier, you
weren't allowed to be a member much less an officer of BEMA,
but here we are," Mr. Gude said. "Today, all sectors of the baking industry are integrated like never before. BEMA's membership reflects this development as we've opened membership to all industry suppliers. We've had a very successful last
few years as we've grown our association and lent significant
support to industry efforts such as the creation of the Grain
Gude
Foods Foundation. This is a remarkable legacy, which I will
strive to continue and build upon."
In addition to Mr. Gude, BEMA elected Kenneth Newsome of AMF Bakery Systems as
third vice-chairman, while Ron Bean of Stagnito Communications, Len Kilby of Stewart
Systems and Kurt Miller of Burford Corp. were elected to three-year terms on the board.
The association also announced the relocation of its headquarters to Overland
Park, Kas. The move was taken to accommodate the April appointment of Kerwin
Brown, a resident of Overland Park, as BEMA's new president and chief executive
officer. BEMA also named Gay Poteet as office manager.

interim chief marketing officer at I.B.C.,
will move into the position of executive

Claire Pyle, wife
of former I.B.A.
president, dies
LA QUINTA, CALIF. - Claire
Thoron Pyle, wife of former longtime Independent Bakers Association president Robert Pyle, died
Aug. 1 following a long battle with
cancer. She was 64 years old.
Born in Boston, Ms. Pyle moved
to Washington in 1985, when she
married Mr. Pyle. She was the
meeting planner for the I.B.A. from
1985 to 2000, and hosted the I.B.A.
Spouse Program and numerous
ladies' luncheons.
In addition to her husband, Robert, Ms. Pyle is survived by a son,
Louis Crosier; four step-children,
Robert N. Pyle Jr., Nicholas A. Pyle
(current president of the I.B.A.),
Mark C. Pyle and Sarah Livingston
Pyle Moore; two grandchildren;
and nine step-grandchildren. MBN
