Wheat carryover for 2006 raised
12 million bus to 542 million
WASHINGTON - The Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department
of Agriculture on Jan. 12 projected carryover of U.S. wheat on June 1, 2006, at
542 million bus, up 12 million bus, or 2%,
from December and 2 million bus above
the 2005 carryover of 540 million bus.
January domestic use and export projections were unchanged from December, but production and imports were

Total use for 2005-06 was projected at
2,188 million bus, unchanged from last
month but down 47 million, or 2%, from
2,235 million last year.
Domestic use of all wheat for 2005-06
was projected at 1,188 million bus, the
same as December but up 16 million
from 2004-05. Food use was unchanged
at 910 million bus but was up 5 million
from 2004-05. Feed and residual use was
steady at 200 million bus but was up 11
million from last year. Seed use was unchanged at 78 million bus.
Exports for 2005-06 were projected
at 1,000 million bus, unchanged from
December but down 63 million, or 6%,
from 1,063 million in 2004-05.
In the wheat by class breakdown, the
U.S.D.A. projected hard red winter wheat
carryover on June 1, 2006, at 173 million
bus, unchanged from December but
down 20 million from 2005. Exports were
projected at 445 million bus for 2005-06,
up 5 million from December and up 57
million from a year ago. Production was
projected at 930 million bus, up 5 million
from December and up 74 million from
the previous year. Total supply was up 5
million bus, to 1,124 million, and total use
was up 4 million, to 950 million.
Soft red winter wheat carryover was
projected at 76 million bus, down 14 million, or 15%, from December and down
12 million from 2005. Exports were pro-

December in both the supply and use in
the wheat by class breakdown, however.
The projected 2006 carryover was above
average trade expectations.
Projected U.S. wheat supply in 2005-06
was 2,730 million bus, up 12 million from
2,718 million in December but down 45
million bus from 2004-05. Production was
raised 7 million bus from December, to
2,105 million, but was down 53 million,
from 2,158 million in 2004-05. Imports
were projected at 85 million bus, up 5 million from 80 million in December and up
14 million from 71 million last year.

bus, up 5 million from December but 34
million below 2004-05. Domestic use was
projected at 222 million bus, down 21 million from December but up 5 million from
2004-05. Total use was projected at 502 million bus, down 16 million from December
and down 29 million from 2004-05.
White wheat carryover was projected
at 93 million bus, up 4 million from a
month ago and up 31 million from 200405. Total supply was projected at 375 million bus, down 1 million, while exports
were put at 175 million, down 5 million
from December.
Durum carryover was projected at 59
million bus, up 1 million from December
and up 21 million from 2005. Production was increased 1 million bus from
December, to 101 million, while total use
was unchanged at 109 million.
The average farm price for all wheat
in 2005-06 was projected at $3.25@3.50 a
bu, unchanged from December and compared with $3.40 in 2004-05. MBN
