educational sessions, latest technology
and networking opportunities

I.A.O.M. Conference & Expo, May 20-24.

I.A.O.M. continues dialogue
with Central Asian millers
ALMATY, KAZAKHSTAN - Representatives of the International Association of Operative Millers (I.A.O.M.) in February attended a
regional meeting of flour millers and
bakers of Central Asia and Mongolia
in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to present information on the I.A.O.M.'s activities
and benefits of membership.
The three-day conference, which
was attended by nearly 150 people representing 11 countries, focused on challenges and progress
toward quality wheat flour fortification in Central Asia.
Building on a dialogue that began during the I.A.O.M. Middle
East and Africa District Conference in Marrakech, Morocco,
last September, Melinda Farris,
communications director at the
I.A.O.M., and Dr. Jeff Gwirtz of JAG
Services, Inc., discussed plans to form a Eurasian District of
I.A.O.M., as well as details about the new district's inaugural
conference and trade show, which is scheduled to take place
in Istanbul, Turkey, in November.
The new district would encompass members located in Central
Asia, Central and Eastern Europe and Russia.

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Hundreds of milling industry professionals
will gather at the 110th International Association of Operative Millers (I.A.O.M.) Annual Conference and Expo May 20-24 in Austin to
learn about the latest developments in milling technology and take
advantage of numerous networking opportunities.
Held at the Austin Convention Center, the I.A.O.M. conference
will feature 28 technical sessions and instructional briefings covering a wide variety of topics related to the flour milling industry.
Grain traceability, mill maintenance, pest control and facility design
are among the topics to be discussed.
The I.A.O.M. Latin American District Conference, which is held
each year in conjunction with the international conference, is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 20.
Although the I.A.O.M. has held a number of events in Texas, this
will be the first time the international conference has come to Austin,
the state capital and self-proclaimed "live music capital of the world."
"Some of I.A.O.M.'s most successful conferences have been held
in Texas," said Gary Anderson, executive vice-president of the I.A.O.M. "Two of our best-attended
conferences were in Fort Worth and San Antonio.
We anticipate another strong showing this year,
since a large percentage of our members is located
within a fairly easy travel distance. We also expect
more members from the Latin America District to
travel to Texas for the conference."
One of the highlights of the conference will take
place Tuesday evening, May 23, at the annual banquet, where the 2006 "Milling Operative of the
Year" award winner will be announced. The award
is sponsored by Milling & Baking News.

Expo schedule includes 150 exhibitors
In addition to the educational programming, participants also will have access to the I.A.O.M. Expo, a
trade show that will include 150 exhibitors showcasing a wide range of milling industry-related products and services.
Expo hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
on Monday, May 22 and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23.

I.A.O.M. members who register by April 17 receive a discounted
rate of $250. After April 17, the cost is $300.
