Hodgson Mill spun off from
Siemer to manager, family member
EFFINGHAM, ILL. - Hodgson Mill,
Inc., Effingham, has been acquired from
Siemer Milling Co. by Robert Goldstein
and Cathy Siemer Goldstein of Teutopolis, Ill. Mr. Goldstein was vice-president
of production for Hodgson Mill for the
last 15 years and has assumed the position of president. Ms. Siemer is the sister
of Richard C. Siemer, president of Siemer
Milling. The transaction was effected
through an exchange of stock.
Ownership of Siemer Milling remains
with members of the Siemer family and the
Siemer Employee Stock Ownership Trust.
For several reasons, the timing of

the transaction is positive for Hodgson, Mr. Goldstein said, noting that
the company has benefited from its relationship with Siemer Milling dating
back to the 1980s.
"But we have grown to the point
where we can easily stand on our
own," he said. "We will benefit from
our strong identity with whole grain
foods - increased consumption of
whole grains was recently endorsed by
the federal government's 2005 Dietary
Guidelines for Americans.
"And we will emphasize organic and
special needs products to a greater extent

Pepperidge Farm introduces new
hamburger and hot dog buns
NORWALK, CONN. - Pepperidge Farm Inc. has introduced new 100% Whole Wheat Soft Hamburger Buns and
Hot Dog Buns. The new buns are made from 100% whole
wheat flour, contain no trans fat or cholesterol, and provide
2 grams of fiber and 1½ servings of whole grains in
each serving.
"We know more and more consumers are actively
seeking new ways to get their whole grains without sacrificing great taste," said Matt Cleary, senior
marketing manager, Bakery, Pepperidge Farm.
Both Pepperidge Farm Hot Dog and Hamburger
Buns come in 8-count packages, at a suggested retail price of $2.29. The hamburger buns are available across the nation with the exception of the West
coast, and the hot dog buns are limited in availability to the Central, South and Southwest regions of

Schwan's Bakery names Veux Marketing as new
public relations agency for its brands
ATLANTA - Schwan's Bakery, Inc., makers of Mrs. Smith's pies and Edwards gourmet desserts, has selected Veux Marketing,
Inc. as its agency of record to provide public
relations support for its flagship brands.
Bob Trombino, senior director of marketing and category leadership, said Veux
brings a new dynamic to Schwan's marketing mix.
"Veux lends a very different perspective,
which has proven quite effective for our
brands," Mr. Trombino said. "Veux's focus
is external and they're engaged in overall
brand support, new product launches, consumer contests, packaging initiatives and
community projects."
Last month, Veux developed and
launched a "Please Pass the Pie" information campaign for Schwan's during the annual Great American Pie Festival in Florida.

The campaign forged a partnership between
Schwan's and the American Pie Council to
support Florida's historic efforts to legislate
an official state pie.
Last year, Veux supported Mrs. Smith's
re-packaging with a tie-in to the American
Music Awards.
Based in Atlanta, Veux is headed by Ken
Morris and William Colvard. Prior to cofounding Veux, Mr. Morris was senior art director and creative manager at several agencies. His accounts have included the Walt
Disney Co., The Minute Maid Co., Pillsbury,
Pennzoil-Quaker State Co., Roy Rogers,
Hardees/Carl's Jr. and Denny's Family Restaurants, and Nestle. Mr. Colvard's accounts

Settlement may
resolve Krispy
Kreme lawsuit
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A proposed settlement would settle a lawsuit alleging Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. and individual defendants
breached duties in the management
and administration of the company's
Retirement Savings Plan, or the 401 (k)
Plan, and the Krispy Kreme Profit Sharing Stock
Ownership
Plan, or the
KSOP.
Under the
settlement, Krispy Kreme's insurer
would make a one-time cash payment of $4,750,000. Krispy Kreme
and the individual defendants
would deny any wrongdoing and
would pay no money in the settlement. If the settlement is finalized, it
will impact members of a settlement
class consisting of participants of
the 401(k) plan and the KSOP from
Jan. 1, 2003, through May 12, 2006.
Besides the cash payment by Krispy
Kreme's insurer, Krispy Kreme will
merge the KSOP into the 401(k) plan
if the settlement is finalized.
The ERISA class action was filed
on March 3, 2005, in the U.S. District
Court for the Middle District of North
Carolina against Krispy Kreme and individual defendants, including certain
members of the board of directors, officers and employees.
If the U.S. District Court approves
the proposed settlement, it is anticipated the matter will be resolved by
the end of calendar year 2007, according to Krispy Kreme. MBN
