PURCHASE, N.Y. - Albert P. Carey
has been named president
and chief executive officer
of Frito-Lay North America
(F.L.N.A.), a division of PepsiCo, Inc. He succeeds Irene
B. Rosenfeld, who resigned
to take over the top spot at
Northfield, Ill.-based Kraft
Foods Inc. (See related story
on Page 1.)
As head of PepsiCo's
largest North American Carey
business, Mr. Carey will be
charged with growing the company's
$10 billion snack and convenient
foods business.
A 25-year veteran of PepsiCo, including nearly 20 years with F.L.N.A.,
Mr. Carey, 54, most recently was president of PepsiCo Sales, making him the
corporation's chief customer officer.
In this role he led PepsiCo's "Power
of One" cross-divisional strategy,
bringing a unified approach to cus Buhler AG, Uzwil, Switzerland,
has named Erwin A. Frei to head
the company's Engineered Products division. He succeeds Ulrich
Baur, who announced his retirement. Mr. Frei, 49, will be responsible for oversight of the Engineered
Products division, which supplies production plants for making foods such as chocolate, snack
foods and pasta. In addition, the
division manufactures systems for
producing PET pellets, paints and
inks, and coatings. Most recently,
Mr. Frei was president and chief
executive officer of Leica Geosystems HDS in the United States. He
is a graduate of the Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology in Zurich
and received a Ph.D. from the University of Bern. MBN
Tasty Baking Co., Philadelphia, has
named Laurence Weilheimer as general
counsel. Mr. Weilheimer will be responsible for all the company's legal affairs,
including corporate governance and
regulatory compliance. Prior to joining
Tasty Baking, he was corporate counsel
with Towers, Perrin, Forster & Crosby,
Inc. He received a bachelor of science
degree in economics from the University
of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business and a juris doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. MBN

Mr. Carey has held a broad range of
positions at Frito-Lay, where he rose
to become chief operating officer. He
was c.o.o. for PepsiCo Beverages and
Foods; senior vice-president of sales
and retailer strategies for PepsiCo;
and senior vice-president of sales for
Pepsi-Cola North America.
He instituted and continues to lead
PepsiCo's largest recognition program,
called the "Ring of Honor," which salutes the company's top salespeople
around the world during an annual
special awards ceremony at PepsiCo's
global headquarters in New York.
"It is a tremendous honor to be selected to lead one of the most exciting
businesses in the world," Mr. Carey
said. "I'm returning home to FritoLay, and it will be a privilege to work
again with the amazing talent there to
deliver the next chapter in the company's impressive growth story."
In addition, Mr. Carey is a member
of the board of trustees at his alma mater, the University of Maryland, and is
also on the Dean's Advisory Council for the Smith School of Business
at the university.
Also last week, F.L.N.A. named
Jaya Kumar as chief marketing officer,
responsible for traditional marketing
practices across the F.L.N.A. portfolio of brands, overseeing advertising,
media, insights and innovation for the
company's savory snacks.
Mr. Kumar joined Frito-Lay in 2005
as vice-president of consumer strategy,
insights and growth and more recently
was group vice-president of insights,
innovation and shopper marketing.
Prior to Frito-Lay, Mr. Kumar had 18
years of both international and domestic brand management and sales experience. He will continue leading consumer
insights and innovation until a replacement is named in the near future. MBN
