Ted Wiest, former Seaboard
milling operative, dies at 80
MIDLOTHIAN, VA. - Ted Brent Wiest, who spent nearly 50 years in the
milling industry with Seaboard Corp.,
passed away at Bon Secours St Francis
Hospital in Midlothian on July 10. He
was 80 years old.
Mr. Wiest got an early start in the milling industry, moving with his twin brother Ned to Kansas City at the age of 17 to
work at the Rodney Milling Co. (which
later became the Seaboard Allied Milling Corp). Beginning as sweepers, the
brothers worked their way up through
the ranks to become superintendents of
milling operations and gained national
reputations in the milling industry.

Ted Wiest was employed for 49 years
by the Seaboard Corp. and was a lifelong member of the Association of Operative Millers. During his employment
with Seaboard, Mr. Wiest worked in the
Kansas City and McPherson, Kas., flour
mills. Later in his career, he was the onsite superintendent for the construction
and startups of both Seaboard's Jacksonville, Fla., and Culpeper, Va., flour mills.
Mr. Wiest was transferred to Sapele,
Nigeria, in 1976 and ultimately retired
as superintendent of Seaboard operations in Sapele in February 1995.

He also holds the ASBPS designation
from the American Society of Baking.

Paul Wiest (a 29-year-veteran of the
flour milling industry and past president of the International Association
of Operative Millers) and wife, Cheryl, of Moose Pass, Alaska; and three
daughters, Barbara Wiest Beatty and
husband, Larry, of Fairfax, Va., Julianne Wiest of Glen Allen, Va., and
Karen Wiest Ninno and husband, Bill,
of Latham, N.Y. He also is survived by
twin brother Ned A. Wiest of Shawnee Mission, Kas., sisters Linda Wiest Jackson and husband George of
Mission Hills, Kas., and Loyce Wiest
