Seaboard Marine set to
resume Haiti shipments
MIAMI - Seaboard Marine, the
ocean transportation subsidiary
of Seaboard Corp., is resuming
shipments into Haiti with its first
call on the Port of Lafiteau set for
Jan. 26. Seaboard announced the
plans on Jan. 22. The company
said
the
port is less
than
10
miles from Port-au-Prince and
enjoys clear roads to the main
part of the city. Seaboard personnel have been repairing and
securing the dock at Lafiteau.
The ship, the Seaboard Sun, will
restrict cargo to humanitarian
goods and infrastructure relief
projections routed through international relief entities and
U.S. government agencies. A
specialized ramp will be used
for discharges to "maximize its
vessel calls into Lafiteau." Seaboard is planning for the ship to
shuttle back and forth between
Kingston, Jamaica, and Lafiteau.

World wheat carryover
estimate raised
LONDON - Larger wheat production, less consumption and
growing stocks were forecast by
the International Grains Council
in its Jan. 21 Grain Market Report.
World wheat ending stocks in
2010 were forecast at 197 million
tonnes by the I.G.C., up 6 million
tonnes from the Nov. 26 report
and up 19% from 165 million in
2009. The carryover would represent a 67% increase from the recent low of 118 million tonnes in
2008, just two years earlier. Production in 2009-10 was forecast at
674 million tonnes, up 6 million
from November, but off from the
record 686 million harvested in

2008-09. Consumption was forecast at 642 million tonnes, off 1
million tonnes from November
but up 3 million tonnes, less than
1%, from 2008-09.

Hershey: No plans to
make a Cadbury offer
HERSHEY, PA. - Bringing the
months-old takeover battle a
step closer to conclusion, The
Hershey Co. on Jan. 22 said it
would not make an offer for
Cadbury P.L.C. The formal
statement followed by three
days an announcement that
Kraft and Cadbury had reached
an agreement under which Kraft
would pay nearly $19 billion for
Cadbury (see related story on
Page 11). In recent weeks, Hershey was named repeatedly in
the media as a potential alternative bidder for Cadbury, and
there was speculation Cadbury
actively had solicited a Hershey
bid. In its statement, Hershey
reserved the right to change
its mind under certain circumstances, including the failure of
Kraft to complete the takeover.

J&J Snack net climbs
64% in Q1
PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - Net income of J&J Snack Foods Corp.
in the first quarter ended Dec.
26, 2009, totaled $7,091,000, equal
to 38c per share on the common
stock, up 64% from $4,319,000,
or 23c per share, in the same
period a year ago. Sales in the
quarter were $149,102,000, up
6% from $141,142,000 a year ago.
Sales to food service customers
increased $3,726,000, or 4%, in
the first quarter, to $101,261,000.
Driving more than 80% of that
increase were sales of funnel
cake fries to Burger King. Soft
pretzel sales to the food service
segment increased less than 1%
to $24,331,000. Bakery product sales, excluding biscuit and
dumpling sales and fruit and
fig bars, increased $1,162,000, or
3%, driven by higher sales to private label customers. Biscuit and
dumpling sales fell less than 1%
