Department of Agriculture
set the initial 2010-11 overall
domestic sugar marketing allotment (O.A.Q.) at 9,235,250
tons, raw value, the same as
the initial 2009-10 level. The
O.A.Q. was divided 54.4% to
beet sugar and 45.6% to cane
sugar. In addition, the U.S.D.A.
reassigned 170,000 tons of beet
sugar and 200,000 tons of cane
sugar from the 2009-10 O.A.Q.
to raw cane sugar imports already expected from non-tariff
rate quota (T.R.Q.) imports,
thus leaving the 2009-10 T.R.Q.
unchanged after increasing it
twice earlier this year. Further,
the U.S.D.A. said it would allow 2009-10 T.R.Q. imports to
arrive until Oct. 31, a month
after the current year ends, and
2010-11 imports to arrive as of
Sept. 1, a month before the new
year begins.

U.S. Marshals seize food
from warehouse
WASHINGTON - U.S. Marshals, acting under a court order
sought by the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration, on Aug.
19 seized $859,000 worth of
packaged food products from a
rodent-infested warehouse operated by Mid-States Services
Inc. in Athens, Ga. The products, which included crackers,
cookies and potato chips, were
intended for sale to jails and
