Astute Analytica, New Delhi, India, forecast the global frozen food
market to have a compound annual growth rate of over 8% from 2022
to 2030, increasing to $505.41 billion from $265.13 billion. The forecast
noted private label products are gaining market share. Consumers
are becoming more health-conscious and increasingly looking for
organic, natural and non-GMO options, according to Astute Analytica.
In the United States, sales are increasing for frozen food items that
target trends like gluten-free, low-carbohydrate and high-protein, according
to the American Frozen Foods Institute, Arlington, Va.
" Looking ahead, several frozen tailwinds exist starting with family
formation, " said Sean M. Connolly, president and CEO of Conagra
Brands, in a Feb. 21 presentation at the Consumer Analyst Group of
New York Conference in Boca Raton, Fla. " Yes, millennials and Gen Zs
are settling down. They're beginning to have kids. When that happens,
their frozen consumption per category goes up. When they have more
kids and more kids, it goes up and up again. That's a tailwind.

" Additionally, we believe that the shift to at-home eating and the
shift to remote working will remain elevated versus pre-pandemic,
and that's good for business. "
Mr. Connolly pointed to data from Circana, a Chicago-based market
research firm, showing Conagra Brands, which owns brands such as
Birds Eye, Marie Callender's, Healthy Choice and Banquet, is the largest
player in frozen food in the United States with $6.5 billion in sales
for the 52-week period ended Dec. 25, 2022.
US retail sales of single-serve, frozen dinners/entrees rose 4.5% to
$6.12 billion in the 52-week period ended July 16, 2023, according
to Circana. Unit sales fell 9% to 1.76 billion. Results were similar
in frozen handheld entrees (non-breakfast), with sales up over 9%
to $3.77 billion and unit sales down nearly 7% to 728 million, and
multi-serve frozen dinners/entrees, with sales up 8% to $2.66 billion
and unit sales down 4.7% to 302 million.
Inflation was sparking frozen pizza sales, according to data from
market research company Vericast, San Antonio, which found 13%
