Innovative Freezing Solutions for Today’s Market
In recent years, the general consumer profile has altered the food processing industry landscape significantly. Consumers today demand foods that are excellent in all aspects – appearance, texture, taste, nutritional values – off the shelf. This coupled with rapid modernization, has caused the food processing industry to continuously increase their output in order to meet the ever-increasing and ever-demanding requirements of the consumer market. Today, Marel offers freezers which range from upwards/downwards running Spiral Freezers to Superflow Easyclean Tunnel Freezers with impingement technology. Our continuous innovation in freezing technology has enabled us to constantly develop new space-saving, energy efficient and more importantly, costeffective freezing concepts which allows the food processors to focus on what matters the most – maximizing profit potential. In order to help food processors further maximize their investments, we have also incorporated our adjustable Perforated Plates into our patented freezer design, enabling customers to freeze multiple different products using the superior high velocity Superflow® without incurring additional costs. The rapid horizontal airflow - Arcticflow® is another one of our innovations in freezing concepts. In this configuration, the end-product is led past high horizontal airflow which directs the air over and under the products and continuously through the evaporators. The low temperature associated with Arcticflow® ensures a rapid and homogenous freezing resulting in a fine quality end-product. With Marel’s range of freezers, we make it easier for the food processors to decide which of the configurations is more suitable for their production environment. With the high velocity vertical Superflow®, food processors will benefit from the fastest freezing time and lower power consumption compared to other impingement freezers. With the rapid horizontal airflow - Arcticflow®, food processors will benefit from a fast freezing time and the lowest power consumption. In addition, should the food processor require all the benefits, Marel offers the Superflow® Easyclean Tunnel Freezer. With a simple change in air plates, this freezer is easily adaptable for both high speed vertical airflow, Superflow®, and a conventional high speed horizontal airflow, Arcticflow®! This will provide food processors greater flexibility in minimizing the cost of freezing. With today’s increasing demand for higher quality end-products, further growth of the industry is largely dependent to the ability of food processors to introduce better quality, not only to the end-products, but also the process techniques involved in production while keeping costs down. One of the many innovations which we have made over the years includes the impingement freezer which we have incorporated into our design. Our impingement freezer utilizes high velocity vertical airflow - Superflow®, of up to 35 meters per second (m/s) at the air nozzle in order to freeze the end product in a uniform manner, in the fastest possible time, ensuring color, flavor and nutrients are locked in with minimal drip loss. By comparison, a conventional tunnel freezer provides 8 – 12 meters per second over the end-product. In fact, by utilizing high velocity impingement airflow in our freezers, we are able to match the speed and capacity of a cryogenic freezing system, without the additional operational costs of purchasing cryogenic gases. The advantages of having a shorter freezing time and minimal drip loss results in a larger producing capacity and maximum profits with minimum wastage for the food producers.
