Weber greets IFFA attendees with hospitality and innovations
W
ith the company’s signature involute
Durablades prominently decorating
the walls and even the floor of the expansive Weber booth at this year’s IFFA show,
a steady stream of visitors from around
the globe took time to look and listen
as the company showcased its newest
technologies.
The centerpiece of Weber’s alwaysactive booth was their innovative new 906
Slicing System, which consistently drew
crowds to witness its constant demonstrations. It is the next generation of Weber’s
Slicer 904, said spokesman Carsten Reisz
during a technology briefing at the booth.
“It’s a much more open design, allowing
for ease of maintenance and better sanitation,” he said, citing as an example the
906’s single port for greasing the entire
machine. Designers of the 906 endeavored to eliminate bulky housings surrounding machine parts, including spindles and
by developing more robust components,
including motors constructed entirely of
stainless steel. In the name of sanitation, this design philosophy was also applied to the elimination of the blade-head
housing. “Now it is basically mounted on a
solid sheet of metal,” said Reisz. Another
built-in benefit of the 906 design alters
the procedure for changing slicing blades.
Thanks to a new clamping device, “you do
not need tools and you do not have to lift
off a counterweight,” Reisz said.
Weber’s touch-optimized user interface utilizes many of the familiar navigation functions of iPhones and iPads to
operate and monitor its slicers, including
the Slicer 906. Vital information, such as
product type, slicing speed and weights
of products always appears on the touch-
screen dashboard, regardless of mode.
Integrating the process of transferring sliced product to packaging requires
precision and consistency that was also a
technology Weber spotlighted at IFFA. Reisz
pointed out the redesigned transfer unit,
which must be removed and sanitized after each production run, reduced its weight
from 42 lbs. to 15 lbs., facilitating ease of
sanitation.
Addressing the needs of increasingly
wider packaging lines, Weber also featured
its CCA600 and CCA800 automatic infeeding system at IFFA 2013. The CCA line of
Compact-Loaders can be equipped with
features that include distribution variants,
from four portions to six, or a line completion, which supplements incomplete lines
and re-channels them. Designers also took
the step to separate pneumatic parts of the
CCA line from the electrical components.
Weber’s CCA600 Compact-Loader is for
all packaging applications. The CCA800
model Compact-Loader is combined with
the Slicer 905 for even wider packaging
loads able to load (parallel) a maximum of
eight products with foil widths of 830 mm
into the packaging machine.
All areas of the Compact-Loader are
easily accessible and components can
be disassembled easily for cleaning without tools. “Sanitation and ease of maintenance is always a priority, especially in
North America,” Reisz concluded.
