HORMEL APPOINTS MOREY TO LEAD
FARMER JOHN

Mark Morey, president of Dan's Prize, was promoted to
president of Farmer John, Austin, Minn.-based Hormel
Foods Corp. announced. Morey succeeds Greg Longstreet,
who was chosen to lead the company's CytoSport
Holdings Inc. in July. 
Morey began his career in 1993 as a meat-products
salesman in Dallas. Since then, he was a deli-products
manager at Dubuque Foods, where he later became a
regional foodservice sales manager. He also served as
the director of marketing for Precept Foods. In 2006, he
became a group product manager in meat products. In
2008, he became the director of fresh meats marketing and
general manager of Precept Foods. Morey assumed his
current role at Dan's Prize in 2009.

Sysco Corp. reached an agreement with ABP Foods Group
to sell Irish beef in the United States making ABP Food
the first Irish company to reach such a deal, according to
news reports. The deal is worth about €15 million ($17
million). Pallas Foods, a subsidiary of Sysco based in
Ireland, facilitated the agreement.
ABP will supply beef to Sysco Metro New York and Sysco
Boston locations. Steakhouses and restaurants will be the
initial customers. Shipments are expected to begin in March.
Ireland became the first European Union member to
regain access to the US market for beef after US officials
lifted a 15-year ban on beef produced in the EU. The ban
came in response to an outbreak of bovine spongiform
encephalopathy (BSE) in the EU during the 1990s.

JOHNSONVILLE NAMES NEW PRESIDENT
Nick Meriggioli, former president of Oscar Mayer, was
named president of Johnsonville Sausage effective April 1.
Meriggioli succeeds Ralph Stayer, the son of
Johnsonville's founders, who is retiring. Meriggioli joined
the company in 1987 and spent seven years as executive
vice president and president of Madison, Wis.-based Oscar
Mayer. Meriggioli will become the first Johnsonville CEO
who is not a Stayer family member.
