morsels and even bones for dog treats) seem
a natural addition to a never-ending parade
of offerings spurred by the imagination of the
new owners. In the past year, they produced 1
million lbs. of sausage alone.
They even see future growth coming not
just from smoked bones for dog treats, but
from a coming line of pet foods to be marketed
under the name Dog Centric.
It's abundantly clear that the brothers have
not only moved their new business into warp
drive, but see little to impede them on future
growth.

ADDITIONAL ENDEAVORS
Last September, the family purchased
the JW Treuth & Sons slaughter plant in
Baltimore. Jason serves as president of this
newly acquired operation, which includes
a 25,000-sq.-ft. plant located on 20 acres.
Indeed, the Treuth plant is now slaughtering
under both Kosher and Halal procedures. This
one-time, Kosher-only plant was established
more than a century ago and was once the
largest facility of its kind on the East Coast.
When faced with the challenges of
operating under two different ritual slaughter
methods, Jason says the key to its success has
been transparency with customers and letting
customers know up front the "policies and
procedures at Treuth."
The Baltimore operation slaughters four
days per week and is already getting nearer to
its estimated capacity of 650 to 700 animals
per week. It has also grown to 50 employees.
