NAMES IN THE NEWS

JOHN STARKEY, US POULTRY & EGG ASSOCIATION president,
was named the association's Workhorse of the Year during the
2015 International Production & Processing Expo in Atlanta.
The honor is given annually in recognition of dedicated service
and valuable leadership to the industry.
Starkey was "collared" with the long-established horse
collar by 2014 Workhorse of the Year, DR. HONGWEI XIN and
presented with a plaque by newly elected 2015 USPOULTRY
chairman, SHERMAN MILLER, Cal-Maine Foods, Jackson, Miss.

PERDUE FARMS, Salisbury, Md.,
announced the promotion of RANDY
DAY to president of PERDUE FOODS.
Day was executive vice president
of supply chain for Perdue Foods.
He joined Perdue Farms in 1980
and held various positions before
he was named vice president of
quality assurance and logistics and
was promoted to president and
general manager of foodservice and
prepared foods in 1996.
After five years of leading TYSON
FOODS' international operations,
JAMES YOUNG has returned to
Siloam Springs, Ark.-based COBBVANTRESS as vice president of
operations for South America and
the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and
Africa) region.

SMITHFIELD FOODS INC., Smithfield,
Va., announced DANIEL KAPELLA
has been promoted to president
of PATRICK CUDAHY LLC, effective
March 1. Current president WILLIAM OTIS will transition to
a new position as executive vice president of operations,
packaged meats division for Smithfield Foods.

DR. KENNETH PETERSEN was named senior vice president,
Quality Assurance, Food Safety and Regulatory Affairs
at OSI GROUP, Aurora, Ill. Dr. Petersen will lead the
company's quality assurance and food-safety functions.
Richmond, Va.-based PERFORMANCE FOOD GROUP
INC. has named DAVE FLITMAN president and CEO of its
Performance Foodservice broadline business segment.
CP PACKAGING LLC, Appleton, Wis., announced the
appointment of MIKE MINOCK as director of sales. Minock,
a food-industry veteran of 27 years, most recently worked
at TREIF USA as sales director. 
NORTH AMERICAN MEAT INSTITUTE (NAMI) announced
the promotion of key staff. WILLIAM WESTMAN was
named senior vice president of international affairs. NORM
ROBERTSON will serve as vice president of regulatory
services. KEN MASTRACCHIO was promoted to senior
director of regulatory services and ANDREA PERKINS was
promoted to director of regulatory services. ERIC ZITO will
be senior director of membership and exposition services.
MICHAEL SCHUMPP will be manager of public affairs and
member communications and CHRISTINA MARMOR will be
senior manager of meetings and conference services.
Within the NAMI Foundation (NAMIF), BETSY BOOREN,
Ph.D., has been named NAMIF president and SUSAN
BACKUS was named executive director of the foundation.

Seaford, Del.-based ALLEN HARIM has named poultry
industry veteran, HERB MCCOUN, as senior manager of
supply chain. McCoun joins Allen Harim following a 32-year
tenure at PERDUE FARMS.
GOLDEN STATE FOODS, Irvine, Calif., announced the
promotion of JOE HEFFINGTON to corporate vice president
and chief accounting officer.

Chicago-based COVERIS S.A. announced the installation of
new members to its board of directors: RICHARD PASSOV,
most recently CFO for Zoetis Inc.; LUIS BACH, currently
a partner with Monvic Consulting S.L.; and FERNANDO
AGUIRRE, founder of The Triple Play Group LLC.
Henderson, Colo.-based BIRKO has been named by
ColoradoBiz magazine as a Top 50 Family-Owned Colorado
