INDUSTRYNEWS Navigating the job search Three areas you can influence RCA partnered with CJ Flannery, director of innovation search in the food science practice at Kaye/Bassman, to host a virtual job fair this past June. Ms. Flannery shared her insights on the current landscape, job trends and practical tips. Here are three areas she believes are within job searchers' sphere of influence. 1 Define your niche if you're in a slow market. It's quality over quantity in a down market. Apply to quality roles and spend quality time searching. Spend 80% of your time applying for niche roles and 20% applying for things that may be a fit. 2 Network the right way. Create value for others rather than trying to get something from them, because it will show. Once you've created credibility through newsletters or posts on LinkedIn within your niche, ask others for insight and guidance. Avoid doing this in reverse. 3 Keep perspective and visibility in mind. Keep the perspective of a hiring manager in mind when writing your resume or updating LinkedIn. Are you mentioning keywords they would search for? Are you presenting results and not just buzzwords? Are you showing how you grew in previous roles?
