AN INDUSTRY LEGACY

SNAC International's educational
programming is also a focus for Mr.
Sifer. For example, the Emerging
Leaders Program was launched two
years ago as a comprehensive MBAstyle course that empowers future
industry executives. He wants to
build on that program by keeping
past "ELP" participants engaged
in the association by offering new
webinars and training such as the
Sales & Marketing Program coming
this May in Philadelphia.
"I challenge you to find another
organization that will underwrite
the cost of your employees' participation in such a wide array of
programs," Mr. Sifer said. "And we
plan to continue to do so."
The Executive Leadership
Forum is another marquee event
that helps industry leaders foster
deeper relationships. He is looking
forward to working with SNAC
International's team to reenergize
the meeting and help members
find new ways to connect. He is
confident that the association's
staff, including new President
Elizabeth Avery and David Walsh,
vice-president of membership, are
well-positioned to keep the focus
on serving the members.
"Our goal is for SNAC to continue
offering even more value to each
and every one of you," Mr. Sifer said.
"That is why we are here."

LOOKING AHEAD
Mr. Sifer is certainly no stranger to
the snack industry or SNAC International. He and his wife of 40 years,
Doris, are lifelong Pennsylvania
residents. He has served in various
positions at Herr's since 1981 and
has led the supply chain team for
more than 10 years.
"When you spend your career at
a company, it's more than a job," Mr.
Sifer said.
As a company, Herr's has a long
legacy of leadership within the
association, with Daryl Thomas,
senior vice-president of sales and
marketing, most recently serving
as chairman of the association
in 2008. However, Mr. Sifer is the
first non-family member to represent Herr's as chairman, something he thinks of as an honor
and vote of confidence.
He describes Herr's as an "organization of learners." The company
is in its second generation of family
leadership, with a third generation coming on soon. Mr. Sifer is
also proud of Herr's commitment
to bringing in fresh talent and
increasing collaboration within the
company. Both he and Herr's are
open to taking chances and trying
new strategies.
"We think that if you keep your
focus on your customers, you will
be moving in the right direction,"
