Ray Starling, special assistant to the President for agriculture,
trade and food assistance, shared a candid dialogue with SNAC
members at the policy conference.

FOOD AND AGRICULTURE
The Legislative Summit kicked
off with the annual SNAC Attack
reception. Attendees sampled

snacks from around the US and
mingled with industry peers and
executives. Senate Agriculture
Committee Chairman Pat Roberts
(R-KS) joined the reception and
shared an insightful update on
the 2017 food and agriculture
policy agenda.
The policy conference featured a candid dialogue with Ray
Starling, special assistant to the
President for agriculture, trade
and food assistance. Mr. Starling
delivered a "DC Insider" perspective on some of the most prominent issues affecting the snack
industry including trade, regulatory reform, SNAP choice and
labor. Mr. Starling urged attendees
to "stay engaged and adamant and
to keep reminding policy makers
why these issues are so important."
Finally, silver-level contributors
to SnackPAC were honored with
a dinner for their support of the
political action committee that
builds champions for the snack
industry. Participants were joined
by Jim Gerlach, president and CEO,
Business Industry Political Action
Committee (BIPAC). Mr. Gerlach
shared observations about the
importance of political action
committees and how they serve
as a vehicle to educate and build
relationships with legislators and
industry peers. Mr. Gerlach said
PACs are "not just political but also
educational and, with the help of
people like you, successful."
