SNAC International's programs fuel varied areas of growth.
With a strong focus on professional development, SNAC
has invested in the industry's next generation of leaders.
Tailored for graduates of the annual Emerging Leaders
Program (ELP), the second installment of ELP 2.0 was
held in July at Georgetown University. The highly rated
program featured group exercises and interactive discussions on topics including driving collaboration and innovation, managing relationships and building trust, inspiring
teams to greatness, and personal branding.
Nov. 4-6, SNAC will foster growth for the industry's
rising stars with its 5th annual ELP. Both ELP and ELP
2.0 programs are free for members and feature some
of Georgetown's best business professors including
Robert Bies, professor of management and founder
of the executive master's in leadership program at the
McDonough School of Business.
Graduation from ELP is only the beginning, as all emerging leaders are given a discount to attend SNAXPO, where

in Orlando, FL, Professor Bies was a featured guest at the
Emerging Leaders dinner, and all graduates were invited
to attend the SnacPAC reception where they heard from
Amy Walter, national editor of the Cook Political Report and
former political director of ABC News.

RECORD-BREAKING LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT
In June, 55 SNAC members met with a record 120
members of Congress and their staffs to discuss snack
industry priorities during the Legislative Summit, which
annually brings leading snack producers and suppliers
from around the country to Washington, DC.
With policymakers on Capitol Hill, attendees learned
about the industry's current challenges, discussed how
the issues impact their businesses and shared ways to
make a difference. SNAC's priorities included establishing risk-based criteria for state labeling mandates;
implementing achievable sodium reduction policy; and
creating additional pathways for new entrants into the
workforce, particularly drivers and manufacturing jobs.

TECHNICAL EDUCATION REVAMPED
In late 2017, the SNAC board of directors approved a
revamp of the association's technical education program. Driven by input from members, SNAC held a
series of webinars and in-person workshops to help
quality, regulatory and technical personnel learn about
pressing issues and best practices.
The webinar series, recorded and available ondemand on SNAC's members-only website, covered
topics such as labeling transparency, bioengineered
food disclosure, the regulatory outlook for CBD and the
snack industry, Proposition 65, and more. SNAC held a
sanitation best practices workshop at SNAXPO19, and
last December it held a Food Safety Modernization Act
enforcement workshop, which helped members prepare for the first rounds of food safety inspections by
the Food and Drug Administration.
