Tortilla chips offer fiery flavors and BFY benefits.

The Tortilla Chip category is no stranger to bold
innovation. Whether spicy, savory, sweet or sour,
tortilla chip brands are consistently rolling out
innovative snacks that stand out from the pack.
These exciting offerings have fueled steady
growth for the $6.9 billion category, which posted
a 9.4% increase in dollar sales for the 52
weeks ending Jan. 28 and a 0.3% rise in unit
sales, a figure that's especially impressive considering
inflation's continued drain on consumers'
snacking purchases.
Frito-Lay's powerhouse brand Doritos led the
category with $2.7 billion in sales, including an
11.8% jump in dollar sales and a 3.3% increase
in units. Spicy flavors remain in hot demand, and
Doritos answered with a host of fiery options. The
brand launched new flavors to energize its Doritos
Dinamita brand, including Flamin' Hot Queso,
Smoky Chile Queso, Hot Honey Mustard and Tangy
Fiery Lime. And for especially daring snackers, the
brand debuted Roulette Flamin' Hot Limón chips,
a spicy variety with select chips topped with even
more super sour flavor.
Campbell's Snacks' Late July brand also turned
up the heat with two new flavors. Its Scorchin'
Sauce variety features bold and savory cayenne
pepper flavor, the company stated, while its
Hawaiian Habanero flavor balances sweet and
tangy pineapple with spicy habanero.
More brands are also packing in better-foryou
benefits alongside their bold flavors. Snack
Innovations' Natural Endurance plant-based protein
tortilla chips, for example, are made with peas, lentils,
soy and avocado oil, and are available in sweet
and savory flavors like Birthday Cake and Sweet
Chili. Garden Veggie, a brand of the Hain Celestial
Group, introduced Flavor Burst tortilla chips in
Nacho Cheese and Zesty Ranch, made with nonGMO
corn and no artificial flavors or preservatives.
And Tia Lupita expanded its portfolio with its grainfree
cactus flour tortilla chips available in flavors
such as Hot Sauce and Habanero.

CATEGORY INNOVATIONS
 Doritos brought back its Late Night Loaded Taco variety,
aimed at the popular late-night snacking occasion,
following strong consumer demand for its return.
 Known for its fiery flavors, Barcel's Taki brand pivoted
in 2023 with its first non-spicy Taki flavor, Intense Nacho.
 Spicy flavors still dominate among new product
launches, including hot takes on mustard, lemon, lime,
queso and more.
 More better-for-you tortilla chips made with alternative
grains, higher fiber and no artificial preservatives are
being introduced.
