Vroom, vroom.
Lou Ann Mylott recalls the sound effects her son
Michael C. Mylott '14 would make as he drove his
Matchbox® cars around the curvy road depicted
on a plastic playmat.
" It's clear that his love for cars and all things
mechanical led him to Thaddeus Stevens
College, " explains his father, John Mylott.
When he first visited the technical college,
Michael explored a few programs; but it was
Mechanical Engineering Technology that
captured his attention. He felt at home in the
program-and at the College.
When Michael unexpectedly passed away in 2021,
his family wanted to donate to the place that
made their son feel so welcome. After seeing
plans for the future dining hall project, Lou Ann
instantly noticed the wonderful view outside.
" Michael was always about the view. So from
that perspective, we thought it would be a great
fit, " she explained. Michael was also a big fan
of food-especially a cherished chocolate cake
recipe passed down through generations.
After their initial gift, to support the new
Michael C. Mylott Dining Hall build, the Mylotts
aspired to do something even more personal.
" We wanted an opportunity to keep his name
alive, and we felt an endowed scholarship was a
really good way to do that, " shares Lou Ann.
John says they also wanted to help other
Mechanical Engineering Technology students
advance their academic careers. " Supporting

any kind of education is going to impact not only the
individual being helped but society in general, " he
said.
A hard worker committed to helping others, Michael's
Eagle Scout Project was restoring a family cemetery
on a local farm. And he once wrote on his LinkedIn
profile that his objective is to " help everyone as much
as I can. "
Thanks to the generosity of his family, Michael's
spirit of giving will continue, year after year, with
each new scholarship recipient and with the future
new Michael C. Mylott Dining Hall on Main Campus.
