James Clinton
"JC" Hale Former:
President of the
Thaddeus Stevens
Alumni Association
James Clinton Hale was born
October 20, 1947 in Altoona, PA,
he was the son of the late James
Clinton Hale and Bertha (Beach)
Hale. He is survived by his wife of
thirty-four years, Carole, his son,
James Clinton Hale of Wisconsin
and his daughter, Lisa, wife of
Douglas Shenberger of York County; his best girl Golden Retriever,
Maggie and his horse, Chief.
James Clinton Hale served in Vietnam l969 thru l970 and was a
decorated infantryman. In l975 JC founded J.C. Hale Construction
and grew it into a respected and successful business. Health
problems forced him to close the business in 2010 and he retreated
to his much beloved farm. He became a full time bison rancher and
raised watusi cattle and Southdowne Baby Doll Sheep and Goats.
There are countless stories of the adventures of the farm, horseback
riding, his Tennessee Walker Chief, raising and training his beloved
Highland Gordon Setters and projects
In l987 he heard a presentation from the Make A Wish Foundation
of York County. They were looking to establish a Lancaster County
Chapter and looking for someone to develop it. The Make a Wish
Foundation of Lancaster County was established by the Hales.
With the many dedicated volunteers, Make A Wish grew and
wishes came true for countless children. The Make A Wish Convoy
was started in l989 and is still a popular event and fund raiser in
Lancaster County.
JC also took on the restructuring of the Thaddeus Stevens College
of Technology Alumni Association. Under his guidance the bylaws
were rewritten and approved by the alumni, a board of directors
put in place, and an executive director hired, thus setting the
groundwork for the Alumni Association to grow into the powerful
asset it is to the College today.
JC was a 32nd degree Mason and a thirty-nine year member of
Lancaster Elks Lodge, along with prior memberships in other
service clubs.
On April l7, 2017 James Clinton Hale scratched the last item off
his list of things to do and laid his head down for the peace and
rest he so richly deserves. JC the husband and father war hero,
steeplejack, builder, wood carver, avid reader, writer, cattle rustler,
bison handler, scuba diver, world fisherman, gardener, horseman
and dog lover, went to his heavenly home.
